    Default Scuffed tail lights

    I have a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic with a Voyager Kit. I have gone through two sets of the stock rear turn signal lens from something rubbing against the very center of both lenses. Anybody else hVe this problem?

    Both turn signal lens on bike are getting scraped right in the center of both lens. Cannot post pics right now. It is almost like rear of voyager Kit is scrapping lens.

    I'd like to 'buy a vowel', or 'use my landline', but I'll throw in the first shot given the very limited info we have. Possibility - you have an earlier model Voyager which uses the upright shock absorber. The shock absorbers are installed to the outside of each leaf spring. The top of the shocks line up with each turn signal. When hitting bumps, the Voyager unit moves upward with a bit of a forward arc (fulcrum point is forward main bolts) and bump the taillight lenses on heavy bumps.

    If so, solution - add more pre-tension to each side of the Voyager (see your owner's manual), and adjust each shock absorber lower mount to a bolt hole a step more forward (I think that's the right direction). On a touring Harley, pretension needs to be more than the 5/8" or so the book recommendss. Comfortable ride with minimum spongy will be found at about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2" sitting still.

    If that doesn't work, try to make a mark on each turn signal lens at the primary point of contact. Then, using a ball peen hammer, install a hole in each lens large enough to eliminate contact. Hey guys, hold the torpedoes, it's a joke!

    Thanks Loner, Voyager Kit was installed in 2013 from factory at Harley Dealership. there are no vertical shocks. I will check the preload and see if that helps. I have put about 3000 miles on bike since installing kit.
    Have changed the lenses three times because of scuff marks in the center of the lens. Thanks for the info, ride safe!!!

    I believe what you are describing is the voyagers rear mud guard scraping your signal lights. If this is the case then something is either not assembled correctly or is busted. The voyager should not bounce up that high and should not be that close to your rear fender, you should have it checked out by a qualified mechanic and have him check the install against the book.

    Or...maybe it's the wrong kit for the bike??? Just a thought.... There's generally a S/N tag somewhere on the Voyager. Mines located on the right rear corner gusset. Call the factory for the info. They have all S/N's recorded...
