Default CSC brakes

Can anyone advise how the brakes on my 1800 Goldwing CSC trike are actuated, do they operate in the same manner as the normal wing, linked front and back.

I was testing my brakes during a ride yesterday, after a couple of months in the garage while the snow was around (still is). Front brake seemed ok but the back brake was not as good as I expected. With a lot of force applied to the pedal the bike slowed down but I could not lock the wheels, is this normal.

The pedal does not seem spongy but maybe it needs bleeding.

    Any ideas..........

The brakes on the CSC Cobra are done just like the bike was before, keeping the proportional braking. So it is going to be tougher than you may think to lock up the rear. If your pedal is hard and the bike is stopping, bleeding isn't likely to help. If you had a spongy pedal, that would be another story, then bleed away. Is the trike new to you, did you drive it any before putting it away? From the sound of your email, I get the impression you haven't really ridden it much yet and don't know what to expect. You may have no problem at all, it may just be the proportional brakes working as they should. On the other hand, you could also have an issue with the pads or rotors that are preventing the brakes from working as they should. Hard to tell.

Thanks for the comments, I bought the trike last year new, now done just over 5000 miles on it. During the Xmas break I serviced it and changed the oil in the diff and greased up the suspension on the CSC conversion.

The hand brake had seized so I took the unit apart and cleaned a lot of corrosion from the mechanism and eventually got it working properly.

The design of this mechanism is such that it rattles every time you go over a bump which is infuriating, so while it was all in bits I made some special anti rattle springs to cure the problem. These work great.

Due to the general corrosion I also checked the foot brake operation and all seemed ok. The back wheels however would still turn when the front brake was applied; I presume this is correct as I understand that the front wheel must be turning before the linked braking system works.

My previous trike before the Wing was a Triumph Rocket 3 which I converted using a Grinnell rear end, the rear brakes on this would lock up quiet easily.
So my problem is that I never tried to lock up the rear wheels on the Wing when it was new so I don’t know if it is actually possible. I was hoping that fellow CSC Wing riders could enlighten me to put my mind at rest.........

Jack up the front wheel and apply the rear brake. see if it stopped the front. My DFT won't lock the rear, friends Champion will

CSC keeps that linked connection and maintain the ABS system if you have it on your wing, I just came back from KEY WEST and had an opportunity to slam the binders on at 70mph heading up through va. as I already filled my dear tag in pa, worked perfect, missed the dear and the brakes DID NOT LOCK UP, sore shoulders due to hangin on to dah machine but otherwise was able to steer around the running mama:Monster:

Bottom line that's a great thing to be able to miss the deer. Know your trike to the fullest. Practice and picture doing these evasive maneuvers. Be prepared. Glad you were able to.

Ok guys this is going to be long but I have had a brain fart.
What would happen if you hooked the mastercylinder up backwards??
We all know that Hondas that have linked brakes put 70% of the brake power to the front on their bikes and then we trike them and then we need the 70% on the rear becouse that is where we need it!! This is just me rambling and I know you guy have a lot of knowledge and I would like to read what you think..
!993 goldwing Cal side car trike.
    !996 Kaw 1500 classic.
    !987 BMW K75S black.
    !980 goldwing 1100
    and others

I've read where guys on VTXOA have eliminated the the cross over and went with separate controls. Front brake only actuates front and pedal only actuates rear brake.
But I like your idea. I will be reading more as it comes up. I wish I could lock up the rears as well as the fronts do.
