Default Retirement is for the faint of heart !

1st of all being retired isn't easy for all of us. There's only 24 hrs in a day. 6 to 8 of them are spent sleeping at one time or another. 1st we get up at the crack of 7:30 am. Then its coffee and get on the pc to check e mails and catch up on the News. All the while listening to the Today show in the back round. Then by 9:30 its shower time and get the day started. Being retired you have a lot of friends doing the same thing....NOTHING all day. Then get a hold of one of our riding buddies and see what's up for the day. Maybe a ride over to see a movie and then a dinner some place.

Or just walk over to their house and shoot the bull for a while. We have a couple that's REAL good friends with us. Usually the 4 of us are together a lot. We both own HD Trikes and live in a RV resort.

Where they also have Park model homes in here. Thats what we own in here with a lot of others 1200. Then there's family and and NONE ridin friends we have also. Takes some time to get things straight on what were doing with whom. NOT easy sometimes. Then there's things inside the resort to do also.

@ huge swimming pools. Every activity under the SUN. Tennis, Bochie ball, Wood working, PLUS the biggest draw is the TIKI bar right in the middle of the park. Entertainment m, w , f. The rest of the week is open mike nights. They serve Beer and wine and also burgers or other things like Taco's and snall items like that. That bands that come in are pretty damn good. Did I say there's an dance floor also. Plus 3 to 4 big screen TV's around the Tiki Bar ! We have our own mail room and a restaurant that's open for breakfast and lunch only.

The park is full of dogs and they have a BRAND NEW dog park. Believe me its not for the dogs. People sit around and bull **** all day there while their dogs play. So after a day of ridin some place or just chit chatting with our friends in here. Makes for a busy day for sure. There is some maintenance that has to be done. Like washing the windows and screens once every 6 months . Washing the truck or bike is alway fun.

If you like a clean ride. Most of the times their just dusty since we live in a Desert area .

Which means SUN 97 % of the time. Yeah it gets chilly at night during the winter months. But you never have to shovel it.lol. Tonight we have some old friends from Mi stopping by after dinner. Then were off to see our good friends Randy & LInda for a few mins. Then back here to watch the boob tube. Hey LOOK some one has to do it. I'm been trying to do it right since 2000. That's when I retired form Gen motors and never looked back. nuff said.

    C ya

I am jealous. I would much rather be where you are then where I am. The weather in Ohio sucks. Cold all winter, rain in the Spring, roll the dice on Sept and October. We get about 40 days of sun in the Summer when there is NO chance of rain. Here in Southern Ohio I had over a 100 days of percipitation at my house with over 200 days of cloudy or mostly cloudy days. Maybe some day I can spend time out your way and enjoy that sunshine.

your story about "retirement" sounds about identical to mine. retired in 08' but then people move,change,die,etc..and now I work part-time at a golf course in maintenance and love doing that. Maybe one year I will go back to doing what you do again..The next bunch of guys that I use to work with are retiring in 2 years.

I love retirement!! This year we are trying out extended southern/western travel for about 5 weeks. Hopefully, we will miss the worst of Michigan's winter.

I retired 4 years ago and I'm loving it, should have done it 30 years sooner ! I did get a part time job at a friends auto auction for play money and I enjoy messing with the cars. If want to not work for a month its OK, Thurs.is auction day other than that its riding time. Most of the people who work there are retired or college kids ,pretty interesting. That's my story an I'm sticking to it! Ride safe ya'll

yeah yeah, like we believe all that stuff. All you guys do is scratch and fart and talk about your operations and how bad you used to be. And I can not wait the 7 years until I can do it too ! Some guys just have to rub it in...geeze..... lol

Abruptly retired from a second career in 2010 when the wife relapsed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. I was your died in the wool 'Type-A' personality guy; first in to work and the last to leave. Work was always priority one; I was groomed that way during a 30-year military career so I carried the habitual practice into the second job. Didn't know any better, I guess.

The day the better half was formally diagnosed, I called the boss and told him he needed to have a replacement by the end of the month. She needed a care-giver more than ever as she faced a rigorous stem cell transplant. Fortunately, she did quite well; achieved another remission, and things settled down. Then I went nuts with boredom...

It took a couple years to adapt, but once we started traveling, we developed a stronger bond than ever, and I achieved peace with the retired life. Looking back, all those years of being tied to the job cost precious time with the family. Life is now good. New life in the old hobbies, back in the motorcycle saddle, and more importantly spending the time with our grand kids that I should have spent with our two daughters when they were growing up.

That's me all right... the classic Monday Morning Quarterback. Hopefully the Good Lord will give me another 10 - 15 years to make up for some lost time.

It is good to be hooked up here with you fellas.
    Scratch sends...

Reading your original post I think you need a vacation.

It just sounds to stressful to me, All I ever wanted to be was cowboy ,hippie degenerate motorcycle trash and now im retired I want nothing to complicate that role.

Work is over-rated and there should be a coalition to put a stop to it?
