Default Couple of things to do to my Free this week

My CFR (knock-offs) mufflers arrived Saturday, going to try to install them Monday or Tuesday. Only took about an hour on wife's Tri-Glide, but since the stock mufflers are 2" shorter on the 'Free, I'm going to have to compensate somewhere in the tail pipe. Shouldn't be a problem. Also bought an electric Jacket. I'm installing a 110 volt inverter in the trunk so I can recharge the batteries while riding.

If anyone is interested, the Electric Jacket is made by Voltheat and can be ordered through Brookstone for under $200. It uses the same battery configuration as the Harley Jackets, but the extra batteries are $20 cheaper. I bought it because wife has the Harley branded electric jacket. Gerbine and other electric jacket makers use the 7volt battery, but the plug is different.

Steve, would love to hear your FW after you get the new muffs installed!

Where you going that you need an electric jacket?

Yes. PLEASE let us know how the mufflers turn out!

I have a Hotwired jacket liner (with thermostat) and glove liners. I'm plugged into the trike's battery and I start sweating if I have it on maximum in 20 degree weather.

I have a Tourmaster Eclectic jacket, Have it for 10 years now, Won't leave home without it in the winter.. A few years ago I had to do a 180 mile ride to upstate NY, 6 degrees when I left home, A little colder when I go to where I was going, Believe it or not if I kept it on hi it was too warm.. I also just got a Gerbing- Cabelas 7v that I use just for my morning 3mile coffee run.. One thing to know ,''If'' your going on a long ride in sub-freezing temps take extra clothing, You don't want to be out there if the jacket fails... Or the Trike stops running..

Kevin, got the mufflers on, they sound GREAT. Tried to video them, the audio with my camera sucks, they sounded horrible on the video.

Removal of the old mufflers was pretty easy. I was a bit worried about the new ones. first they are fatter (4") and 2" longer. I filed the inside of the input end to remove any burrs or weld splatter. This would allow the head pipe to slide farther into the muffler. The limiter would be the hanger , you only have so much play room. I also took the rubber isolator out and turned it upside down. This way the bar points down and gives your more access to the bolts. Start the rear bolt, slide the hanger bar through the isolator and line up the muffler with the head pipe. All slides easily. The front hanger bolt is pretty easily accessible the rear ones ARE NOT. I finally fabricated an open end wrench from a crow foot socket. This eliminates the offset of the open end wrench and gives you access to the bolt head. You need a very short handle, room is very limited. Persevere, it is worth it. For $175 you get that real low Harley rumble without replacing the entire exhaust system for over a grand..... Good Luck, and happy wrenching.

Steve, I put a pair of these on my tri. a week ago. I'm not able to take it out due to the weather, but at idle in the garage, they are the best deep toned sound I've ever heard. Now I have to wait for Spring to see what they sound like on the road.

Where did you order the CFR Mufflers? Can you post pictures of the mufflers on the bike? Did you install a tuner or re-flash?

    Thanks.

I got my mufflers the same place Screwball got his. I can't locate the packing slip. Maybe Screwball remembers. These are not cfr's they are a knock-off. I already have a tuner so I'll do some runs when the weather gets better & re-flash if needed.

i wonder if this will work with a set of stock streetglide mufflers. i have a set from americancustoms i would like to use. i know they are longer than the three wheeler mufflers, just don't know how much longer.

Ordered them from KC International motorcycle parts.

    http://www.kcint2.com/product/90-MUF...FLHX-FLHT.html

Not too hard to install on a Tri-Glide, a tad of a pain in the ass on the Freewheeler. Not as much clearance for the rear hanger nut. After the fact, I think I'd invest in a set of security Torx wrenches, you need them to remove the valance. Would give you more room, but I'm not sure how hard it would be to put it back on. I fabricated a very short 1/2 inch open end wrench from a crow foot socket. There is no offset and gives you a tad more room. Also, I took a Dremel grinder to the inside of the muffler to remove any burrs or weld splatter. This way you can slip the muffler further onto the head pipe. Remember, the Freewheeler mufflers are about 2 inches shorter than the Tri-Glide mufflers. So Far, I'm very happy. Going to ride a couple hundred miles and pull the plugs to see how I'm burning. May do a re-flash if I'm too lean.

    More to come.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
