    Default Kudos to Motortrike

My VTX 1300 Champion is in the shop getting it's 2nd head gasket job in 12 months. (Don't ask). should have it back on Monday. While there we got to talking about Goldwing trikes. My wrench had 2 coming in with drive shaft issues. He will work on the motorcycle 1/2 but will have nothing to do with the trike 1/2. He found the problem to be with the rear u joint. He did call Mototrike and was told that if his customer was the first owner to have him take it to any Motortrike dealer for full repair no questions asked. He was also told that if he was the second owner that they would send him a new driveshaft and he would have to pay for the install by anyone. The wrench still wanted no part of it. He stops at the transmission output. That's pretty damn good customer relations from Motortrike if you ask me. No mileage restrictions or anything. If I ever go looking for a new trike you can bet Motortrike will be on top of my list.

They run a very clean and professional factory and take terrific pride in everything they do. I am not surprised they would stand behind their product 100%.

I just bought a new Motor Trike kit on my Kawasaki Voyager. That is really comforting information. Thanks.

Yes, my experience with Lehman, Hannigan, and Roadsmith is that they all go out of their way to help out. Sometimes they say "no charge" and other times they ask for some payment.

Regardless, the trike conversion manufacturers seem to go to any length to keep their customers happy. Very unusual in this day and age.

I'll soon find out about Motor Trike. I was looking under my wife's Motor Trike to see about belt adjustment if I wanted to do a 30T conversion and if there was enough adjustment to tighten the original belt, and saw that the left CV joint boot had either pulled off one side or tore and exposed the joint on the inside to the elements. So, we're going to find out what happens on that. I've never seen a CV boot on anything give out before, although I'm sure they do periodically.

actual CV joint boot failure is quite common at least on cars but trike boots get exposed to the same elements.

I realize that your post is a few weeks old, but I'll throw this out: All 4 of my CV boots separated from their holding rings on my MT / HD conversion. Also happened to a friends MT conversion. I called my installer, who called MotorTrike. They shipped two complete axle shaft assemblies immediately for my dealer to install. No questions asked. Very happy with that kind of service. The opinion at the dealer is that they may have had a batch of poorly assembled half shafts.

I had my Motortrike in for service and the found a ripped CV joint boot. The factory agreed to replace the part, but I had to pick up the labor.

Obviously there is a issue with these CV joints or Motortrike would not be replacing these units.

IMO they should be picking up labor as well.

MotorTrike is notorious for being closed-mouthed about their products, processes, and problems. According to my installer, they have had as many as 5 units at one time waiting for axle shafts due to boot failure. Which is why they think there must have been a systemic problem at one time. MT denied any "known problem" when I called them. Of course, I've called in the past seeking technical info and asking why there is no shop manual for their product. They are less than helpful.
Sloride, I don't know how old your conversion is, but I agree that a failure such as this should be covered for both parts and labor.

Mine is in its first season ( converted last winter ) and had about 5000 miles on the conversion when the boots failed. Remember, though, that the boots on mine pulled loose from their retaining rings. They were not torn. Have put 1400 miles on since the repair, and all is well so far.
