Default Harley new Windshield Trim Mounted Mirror Review

Okay ... first off they're pricy ... $300, but what that Harley sells isn't? When you factor cost of windshield trim $129, Mirrors with Long Stem $80 ... it's not that bad. (notice how I rationalized that)

Instillation was easy, 20 minutes. Fasteners for the mirrors to the mount have thread lock on them already (yellow). The mirrors screw into the mount, then a lock set screw (thread lock on these too - yellow) holds them there. All in all, pretty solid.

Mount is made of cast and stamped metal, no plastic here. Fasteners for the mount are chromed and have rubber spacers that hold the screws to the mount if you remove it later and keep the mount from scratching the paint underneath.

Mirrors are like those on some cvo's ... tear drop that ends at a point. I'd bet my Tom Nicks pocket knife that in the very near future, Harley will offer different mirror styles, skulls, flames etc. (did I just date myself? ... naw)

Finish is up to Harley's rep for chrome. Very good. Mirrors seem to be of good optic quality, no distortion that I could see.

As a large guy (6'1", 275#), these mirrors are far enough out and up to allow clear view past my bulk. They are also mounted higher than stock so you can sneak a peek behind you without really taking you eyes off the road. I did get a slight vibration at 80 mph in the right mirror, but there is an adjustment on the back of the mirror to tighten them. I did tighten them, they were real loose but have not been back on the highway to retest.

Overall ... I think they are worth the money. I'm still debating how they look on the bike. I think I'll get used to it, still very new, but then again I got used to looking in the mirror every day.

I've enclosed some pics ... in one you can see me in both mirrors taking the pic (brace yourself) from behind the tour pak ... they were adjusted to allow me to see behind me on the bike and even very close to the tour pak, I'm clearly visible in both.

I think the only downside might be they will probably be a major bug catcher ... but so were the long stems and I can see way better behind me. I really like that the bars are now very clean .. now to find a drink holder that mounts somewhere else I like as much as the butler.

These only fit 2014's and above with the bat wing faring.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

    Looking good Fuzzy

thinking about those a bit myself. I currently have the split visions but the bike had the fairing mount mirrors on it when I bought it. Being "large, economy sized" myself, I need something to see around my shoulders. Post and let us know your impressions at the different speeds. cruising and highway.

    Thanks

Had the Kuryakyn on my Bagger, but I don't think they offer them for 14 up.....yet. Really liked them and these may be in my future.

Okay ... so I did some more re torque on the mount and tightened the mirror adjusters and went for another ride ... highway, country roads and in town ... vibration is now limited to bumps ... I'd say I don't get any more than with the bar mounted mirrors ... look of the trike with these and visibility are better with these than my old mod ... see pic

Okay ... I think I have a problem with the mirrors ... since installing them, I'm having signal loss on the sirius radio ... I think all that metal may be interfering with the antenna, it's mounted in the faring just below the mirror mount. I took them off today and put my mirror mod back on ... if this fixes the issue. I might have to sell them. Without the sirius, I think they are great.

I took a ride today to test my theory ... confirmed ... without the mirrors ... just the original SS trim .. reception is back ... I'm bummed ... might try moving the sirius antenna ... but there aren't many options without putting it external to the faring ... that's not an option, too ugly ... so if you are thinking sirius ... don't get these mirrors

i pulled the outer faring and as feared there is almost no place far enough away from the mirror mounts yet high and unobstructed, within reach of the cable for the antenna. Guess these mirrors have just become for sale. They are right at $300 new ... I'm thinking $225 Shipped to the lower 48 states. PM me if interested.

Okay ... so today the gal pal and I took the Tri for a spin .... we stopped to eat lunch ... while eating, I was Grousing about these mirrors not working with the XM ... I explained that the hefty bar the mirrors mount to was blocking the antenna and there really wasn't any other place under the faring to put it ... she said, "why not just put the antenna on the desk like it was on the 11 Ultra?" .... DUH .. why didn't I think of that ... it's not elegant but it works really well ... gonna find some black double sticky tape, or trim the grey so it doesn't show. I get all three bars all over town now.

Guss that's why I keep her around .. to keep me in line (LOL ... as if that's even possible)

Fuzzy, Velcro tape work well. it's already black, just cut to fit.

I've got my taped on top of the rear tour pak seat, ran the wire down under the seat and frame back up to XM mounted to handlebar. Out of the way, out of sight.

Problem with that is ... the cord on this is only about 18" ... I like the velcro idea.
