you have a secret code on your DD214, that's 3 digits, listed under line 11c, 'reason and authority' or at least mine was of 1972. Don't know what my code means yet, probably that I was a consistent trouble maker. But why did they have to list ANYthing? Who benefits from that? Do employers have a list of what these codes mean? All branches of services use the codes. I think the other branches called them SPNs, but the Air Force calls them an SDN, or Separation Designator Number.

I was told I could ATTEMPT to re enlist
after a year and with a doctors release.
(Then I was politely told, unofficially, not to
waste my time)

You might check with your local recuiter.

My SDN is 715 best I can tell it means I was discharged honorable early. I took a 2 month early out in 1970 to go to the FAA

My daughter was recently processing out of the Army (Honorably) and someone told us about that 3 digit # and what it could mean for anyone being discharged. I asked a friend of mine who is a Branch Manager of a Credit Union and he told me most Human Resource officers DO use that number as part of their decision to hire or not. So people should be aware of it and it's future implications to their life. I was also told the time to lobby for a favorable discharge code number is during the processing time of the discharge, as it was almost impossible to have it changed after discharge. Anyone with family members in the military should advise their son or daughter to be aware of that...though most of them are so happy to terminate with the military that they don't worry the small stuff...just the date of discharge.
