    Default electrical problem, volt meter in 12v range

    started the stallion up and noticed that the volt meter was in the 12v range instead of right at 14 volts.
    while going down the street I hit the air bleed or the bottom of the air switch and the bike died and the volt meter and air meter both went blank.
    bike started with no problem, hit the bleed air switch a couple of more times and the bike died again. it would always start ok.
    then I hit the top of the switch to air up the rear end and the voltage went into the 14v range like it should be.
    then I noticed that if I hit the brake the voltage would drop and when I came to a stop and still had the brake on the voltage went back up to 14v.
    when I got home I pulled the passenger back rest so that I could look at the air pump. it has 4 screws holding it up, all 4 nuts were gone and the pump had fallen kind of between the trunk and the gas tank and was pinching some wires.
    I used 3 plastic tie wraps and tied it back up where it should be, problem seems to be fixed but there could be some worn spots on some of the wires that I can not see.
    I will be calling up TBMS on monday and them may take it in.
    It looks like the only way to re-mount the air pump is to pull the body, not good thing for most of us.

    Wow,
    You have the worst luck SD. How many miles do you have on your Stallion? did they change your air bleeder valve as part of the first gen issue with those valves?

    I have #538 that I picked up at the end of April last year so it is less than a year old. I have little over 21,000 miles on it, now about half of that was the trip to Alaska.

    the worse thing was a broken heim joint which is part of the rear suspension. there are 4 heim joints above the rear axle and 2 more about 3 feet in front of the axle, one of those is what broke on mine and they replaced both of the front ones. you can not go much over 10MPH with a broken one in front, you could lose control very easy and go off the road.

    I had 5 cruise switches go bad, they replaced the last one with a totally different kind and it has close to 10,000 miles on the new style.
    I had several relays replaced due to bad connections, 1 for high beam, 1 was for taking the transmission out of park, one was for the AC/heat fan.
    I had the heat sensor on the radiator go and the trike would over heat and red line, this is the only one fixed at a Ford dealer. everything else was taken care of at TBMS. TBMS is 5 miles from one of my daughters and about 120 miles from my house.

    I have a problem that maybe I am the only one that has, and that is I have to travel down a dirt road for 1 1/2 miles from my house to paved road, because the suspension is pretty stiff I get a lot more vibration then most and it helps find some of these problems. TBMS knows about this and may give me a little bit more freedom on repairs like the cruise switch.

    I can not complain about the service you get in Troup, hell they even fed me twice at lunch time when I was there getting service.

    things I have not had a problem with is the break bleeder value front or back.

    SD checked mine today and it was fine. It must be mounted different then yours because it is mounted to a plate just above the gas tank with 2 bolts. If it came loose I think I would be able to re-attach it. Good luck with the repair. With everything that has happen it is nice to be close to TBMS.

    again I get more vibration on my Stallion than most because of where I live.

    the air pump on my Stallion was held in place by 4 1"+ screws with 4 bolts, by the time I had the electrical problems the 4 bolts were long gone and the pump dropped down to the top of the gas tank and kind of sit between the tank and the trunk and was setting on top of wires, in time the wires developed an intermittent short and that is what caused the voltage drop.

    Interesting....I have been experiencing an unusual loss of air. Even after checking for leaks I couldn't find from where the air was leaking. I call and left a message for Nick...In the meantime twice while riding I pump up the air and "bam" blew the fuse....only happens when I was in motion, not at a standstill. I looked but can't find a short in the console or at the pump. Anyway Nick called back, had me had me pinch off the air line and showed no air loss. Nick is sending me a new check valve. Hopefully the electrical problem had worked it way out....time will tell

    they also installed a new check valve among other things yesterday and today.

    when I arrived at TBMS to get the air pump installed after losing the bolts and dropping down they ask me if they could install a new type HEIM joints on my Stallion as a test, they said that I have more miles than most and run it a harder than most and they would like to test them on mine. I have 21,000 miles in 10 months. there are 6 HEIM joints on the rear end with 3 on the left side and 3 on the right side, they allow the rear end to swivel up and down.
    I said of course, the parts came in a little late so I spent the night at one of my daughters house which is a whole 10 miles from TBMS.
    all was done by noon on Fri and all worked well.
    I also had a messed up Muffler and they repaired that also, NO CHARGE for anything. I like them people..............

    Thats whats GREAT about the Stallion. They do fix it. I have yet to pay for anything yet either. As new things come out they also retro fit.
