to owning our first trike. After an almost 4 month search, one fell almost right into my lap. This past Sunday night was perusing CL and a very affordable trike showed up. Turns out it is located just 6 miles down the road from me. 2005 Yamaha Road Star Silverado w/ Champion conversion, just over 21K on the clock for only $12,900. Runs & rides very nice & will be comfortable for the wife. Only minor things that will need attention are replace the horn (PO mounted it with the outlet pointed up letting water get inside), a steering damper that the CO says is bad (I had no shaking issues when riding down the street) & a couple of nicks in the paint. CO says he'll drop $200 to compensate for the steering damper. Of course gotta try to see if I can get him down a little more. Things work out right, I should have it by Monday.

ride it determine if there is a need for a steering damper ok?
They can help with shimmy but then you also have to compensate for their resistance.
try riding it in a gear where the engine is always pulling and it may keep the head shake down to where you don't really need it?
Every trike is going to have a situation where there is some amount of head shake and your compensating for it is part of the learning curve in handling a trike.
tire pressure, tire pressure, tire pressure! run the front tire at max inflation and the rear between 22 and 26 lbs.
rear tire inflation is a part of your rear suspension and handling.
I think you might just love that trike.
If it doesn't already have a raked front end get ahold of zook for pricing.
It would be a simple install on that bike.
Check out the rear shocks before purchase and see what type they are?
Replacing or upgrading shocks can be pretty costly.
Is it solid or independent suspension?
Most importantly, Who built it and when?
I built my champion for the open road and it rides a bit rough in town (with solid axle) but on the highway it smooth's right out and is a real pleasure to ride and has exceptional one hand handling without a steering damper and a 5 degree rake.

I did the same for my 2010 Ultra with a DFT conversion. Found it on ebay. Moment of just going for it. Did you like dealing with CL? We are thinking of listing my wifes Sportster trike on CL. It has a Roadsmith full conversion. I just dont want to deal with a bunch of dreamers.
Well, one step closer. Due to having to shift funds from different accounts it'll be the end of the week before I can bring this baby home. Deals like this don't usually go my way. Did get him down to 12K tried lower but, he wouldn't go lower. Still think it's a good deal. The few I've seen for sale (not a common conversion I guess) are running in the 14.5-15K range including a couple older models.
pcombe,,,,took all under consideration. Rode it down the street when I first looked at it. Couldn't go further as it's not tagged. His complainy about shaking was at low speeds. I had no issues so will peobably just remove the damper and see how it goes. Shocks are the stock Yamaha rear shock & the coil overs that Champion uses in the conversion ad it has the solid rear. The CO added the Champion rake kit after he bought it. Neither the PO or CO know where the conversion was done but the CO had it checked out locally and all is good with it.
Always liked the 39 Ford style taillight. Gives a hot rod vibe to it along with the rumble from the pipes.
I generally have few problems dealing on CL. Sold and bought a few things with minimal problems. Only problem I've had is lately a few scammy emails on my 47 Chevy Truck.
