    Default Harbor Freight Trike Dolly

Harbor Freight has motorcycle dollys currently on sale for $60.00. Don't forget the 25% discount coupon.

I'm purchasing two for the purpose of welding them together to make a trike dolly. It's maybe a bit easier for me as welding is one of my hobbies, but even if you have to hire it done the cost shouldn't exceed another $200.00.

    harbor freight motorcycle dolly

Doing this would free up a lot of space in the shop or garage for +/- $300.00.

I've been meaning to build one from scratch for a long time but doing it this way is easier & a lot cheaper. It would have cost more than this just to buy the steel to build it myself. I just cannot understand how China manafactures this stuff, ships it here and presumably make a profit.

I have one for my Two wheelers, [low profile] I've been using it for years, Ride my bike on and then I roll it out of the way in the back of my garage
Also you'll have extra steel and rollers, because with a trike you won't need the kick stand holders...

I have another suggestion, if you like to weld & create, buy 2 sets of these dollies and make an even easier to move trike mover. You could make a T shaped cart, using the ramp for the front wheel dolly as part of the structure to tie the 2 rear wheel dollies together.

    http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb...-pc-61283.html

I had several sets of these before I moved and I used them to roll around many things, cars, trucks, trikes & anything heavy. I never welded them together for the trike, but I did put the trike on 3 of them & I could move it very easy.
I think 2 sets of dollies will cost less and you will have 1 extra to move something else.

If I'm not mistaken with the vehicle dollies you have to jack or lift the objects on to the dollies that you want to move around. But with the motorcycle dolly you just ride on and ride off...

you are correct, but the key word is 'Motorcycle' and either way he will have to create something to fit a trike. I gave my idea because I know that the car dollies will roll & move a LOT easier. It might also cost less.
I know that a lot of people don't do or see things as I do , I was able to drive my TG onto 3 of the car dollies by using 3 pieces of angle iron & 3 pieces of wood and I also used my modified tranny jack, when my back would worked, to lift the TG up to put the dollies under.

PS, the 2 motorcycle dollies also has a pad for the kickstands, both of them.

    I wish I could send a diagram, But try to follow this;

The OP Says he can weld ,So you take the two motorcycle dolly's lay them down parallel to each other, Weld two cross members to the dolly's' front and rear the width of the trikes rear wheels.
Then weld the kickstand pads to one of the cross member for the front tire. The kickstand pads aren't welded to the dolly's they are shipped lose you have to bolt them on if you are putting a bike on them..

It really isn't neccissary to have the front wheel on a dolly. Take care of the rear on dolly's use the front to steer it where you want it. I seen one like this, it worked really good.

I'm sure that would be OK if you have a lot of room & 2 people, but with all 3 tires off the ground you can spin in a circle, go completely sideways and do it easily with 1 gimpy guy, like me.

Sorry, I thought the idea was self explanatory. Rhino's quoted description is basically what I was suggesting.

Yes, it is the roll on dolly Zook mentioned.

    This is link should work:

    http://t.harborfreight.com/low-profi...ht-Trike-Dolly

I discounted the three car type dollys mentioned above due to having to jack up the trike or chase the device into a corner & ramp it up with 2X4's or some such as my purpose is convenience and being retired, I'm now sorta lazy. However, this could be made to work satisfactorily by fabricating three separate attached ramps to the, one each to the rear dollys & the other at the middle rear of the cross member leading to the center ramp Doing it this way would require far more work than I'm willing to invest considering the alternative. As I said, I'm lazy & like to spend my time riding the trike.

For larger trikes it will probably be necessary to extend a center ramp forward for the front wheel with a caster wheel at the front directly below the wheel. However, Dirt Dobber's suggestion of just steering it with the front tire would be better unless you need to make sharp turns or be able to push it sideways.

I don't know how to present a drawing in this post. I'm having enough trouble with links. Explained another way, buy two of these & lay them side by side parallel to each other and as far apart as the trike's rear wheels, then weld them together with two cross members, one at the rear, the other at the front. The front crossmember should be located so as to allow the front tire to rest on it. If your trike is too long for this to work, extend a piece of channel iron forward far enough to accommodate the front tire and attach a swivel castor underneath. Most likely, the kickstand pads could be utilized in fabricating the forward extension. Also, a ramp would have to be fabbed and attached for the front tire.

Please feel to call me if you have any questions: 501-541-0046

DPK, I wish I could do a drawing of my idea so you could see how easy & quick it could be, no jacking up or pieces taking up storage & moving around space. I'm sure your idea will work, good luck and let us know how well it works.
