Fumes ???

I have noticed a strong level of gas fumes in my garage after returning from the past 2 day rides. I have checked all under the Trike and around it and found no damp spots anywhere. I am not sure if this is anything to be concerned about but the fumes are strong in my enclosed garage. It does go away after an hour or so. Is this common for Goldwings? I know there is a line under the frame that comes from either the Carbs or the tank, but there is no visible drainage there.

Probably your fuel petcock needs rebuilt. Rebuilt mine and the smell and hesitation went away

If your trike has an aux. tank you could have over filled it or if it pumps to your main tank overfilled that and the excess ran into the canister... but the trike should run kinda crappy til the condition clears... it will eventually dry in the canister.

Doesn't the fuel petcock have an auto shutoff when you turn the engine off? Is this what needs to be rebuilt? I don't have any hesitation and it cranks and purrs like a sewing machine.

Sager, When you remove the fuel cap does your tank have a LOT of pressure in it? I was reading somewhere else that the tank should not build up pressure, and if it does I should replace the fuel cap. Looks to me that the fuel cap is vented into a line going out somewhere.

I've had this very same problem with my 2008 GW since we bought it. It had been sitting for a year with just occasional "crank/idle" done to it. I thought maybe it was the smell of old gas - but after 3 years of riding - it still does it - especially noticeable in the summertime temps in the garage after a ride. I never smell it outside the garage after the ride. Bike runs GREAT - ALL the time. I've chalked it up to a "quirk". I just leave the garage open until it cools down. I still think its old gas smell trapped somewhere - maybe in a filter? Don't know. As long as its running so dang well I've decided not to worry about it.

Our last trike, a 1995 GL1500SE did this. Drove me nuts until I accepted that is the way things are. As mentioned above, it seemed to happen most after a ride in hot weather, so I would leave it outside the garage for a time while I unpacked the "neccesities" Gloria brought along, cleaned bugs off the windshield and fenders, took off the GPS, Mp3 player and cupholders. The GL1800 we currently have does it too, so same routine after a ride. Thing is, it isn't consistant. Sometimes it is gassy, sometimes it isn't.
Some friends with untriked Wings said they also occasionally have a gas smell after a ride. I guess it is just the nature of the beast.
