    Default Throttle Lock

Just a question...is the throttle lock something standard on the 2007 Suzuki c50 Tramp? Or an add on? I noticed last night when I went to move the trike back a little that when I started it the engine revved high and I quickly pushed off the throttle lock and it slowed down. It wasn't locked in place, it was almost like it was stuck somewhere in the middle and needed a bit of a push. I've never ridden a bike with a throttle lock. Is this something removable if I don't like it? I just don't want it "sticking" at the wrong time. I'll give it a chance to see if it was just a fluke but if it is sticking I'd rather just remove it.

There are several brands of throttle locks. They are basically an after market cruise control substitute for bikes that don't have an electronic CC built in. Handy to have if you like riding on the open road for long distances. Useless in city traffic or riding with a group.

You should be able to remove it with a Phillips screwdriver if you decide not to keep it. Not a big chore.

Thank you!! I'll give it a chance to see if it was just a fluke but glad to know I can remove it myself if need be!!

I'll try that first. Don't want to remove it if I don't need to or if there's a trick to it I just don't know yet but also since I'm new to trikes I don't want to crash it.

To the best of my knowledge, Harley is the only company that ever had a throttle lock device and that was a screw you could tighten that put friction on the throttle. I don't remember what year(s) or really if it was just the hole and threads and you had to provide and put the screw in. Many call them suicide throttles.

If yours is acting up, I don't think you want to lubricate it. They work on friction or binding might even be a better word. But there should be something on it to change the friction. You may have a cable that needs lubricated though. That's something that needs to be check regularly.

There's all kinds of them though so you should search the net and find one that looks like yours. Then let everyone know here. Maybe then someone can point to where the adjuster is.

Okay, I'm confused ... not that it takes a lot to get me in that condition ... What is a Suzuki c50 Tramp? Thought you just got a trike? Of course, a c50 could be a trike I suppose ... I got a headache

I assume you are talking about a simple thumb set throttle lock that pinches the hand grip throttle and hog cowboys description of a binding effect would be correct?

I like them and they can be turned even when locked just make sure you have easy access to the set lever, You can put some dry graphite on the lever itself but try to avoid the grip surface.

If your hands are to small to have good access to the thumb lever get rid of it,you can find many types in motorcycle shops or on e-bay.

In addition to my electronic cruise I have a simple type that grips the lever and I just rest my palm on it to be able to flex my fingers once in a while.
I don't recommend this type for everyone because it can be cumbersome.
My friends wife has the type you probably have on her Zuki and it works good for her, just a matter of getting used to it?

Supposedly this is one. That's my guess anyway.

I did get a trike, it's pictured in my signature. It's a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard C50 with Lehman Tramp conversion. Sorry for the confusion, I shortened it earlier.

I'll definitely work with it before making a decision to remove it. It scared the bejeezz out of me when the engine revved. I'm sure the neighbor thought what the heck is she doing. Everyone just looks at me crazy for buying a trike anyway.

I did check out the throttle lock this evening. It looks just like a Kurakyn Universal throttle lock. I found a video on how to install it so I can see how I can remove it.

On the video once it's install the guy checks it to see if it works correctly before tightening it down. He rolls the throttle and lets go to see if it goes back into place. The first time it doesn't so he adjusts it. Mine sticks and the throttle doesn't go back when I let go. I'm sure that's why when I started it a few days ago it revved up until I rolled it back. I guess I'll remove it I really don't want to have an accident because of it. If I decide I want one I'll go back to the dealer and have them install one properly.

    I really need more tools.

    LOL

That sounds like a safe move Jolie. The previous owner may not have installed it correctly even. Did you try re-adjusting it or is that one of the tools you don't have? I hate to see you have to buy another if adjusting would fix it if you see where I'm coming from.

I'm working 12 hours today but stopping and getting a tool to loosen it on the way home so I can go out first thing in the morning and see if that works. My first day off since getting the trike and it's going to be 72 and sunny! Going to the parking lot to do figure eights. Keeping my fingers crossed that the loosening fixes it. I'm thinking they didn't install it right.

LOL I'll remember that. I don't want to be dull. It will be nice and quiet tomorrow and I have to make it just a few blocks to the parking lot. Lots of practice, figure 8s, quick stops, you name it, I've had 2 months to think about it. I'm like a little kid at Christmas and you guys have to put up with me.

It may not be installed wrong. Just adjusted real tight. Some people actually like it that way because vibration can slowly work it enough to back off. So you might set it a 70mph and over 15 miles it will back off to 65mph. So people over adjust them to stop that. Then they have to manually twist throttle off to slow down.

Dangerous idea to me but then I didn't vote for the clown in the White House either. So I guess I'm a loon anyway.

This is the one I picked up at a motorcycle shop when my cruise quit working on a trip.

I seen this one on ebay to fit your bike for $12,00.

Its a simple slip on over your hand grip, when you push down on it it grips the hand grip and when you take your hand off you can flip it out of the way.

if your just doing short trips and not concerned about flexing your fingers just slip it off and put in your trunk?

I heated the opposite side of what you see here and bent it back a little further so as to be able to grip it from behind with my finger and flip it out of the way.

Takes a bit of getting used to but its a good working unit, it allows you to just rest your palm on it.

the difference between a good trike and a bad one depends entirely on the integrity of it's builder!

With your customization of the back side and using your finger, does that mean you are able to rotate the fat part down because you are taking the tension off? If so that's not a bad idea. I've not put one on because I wasn't sure I could get it out of the way quickly. That would sure do the trick.
