Default Any new exhaust options for the 2015 FLRT Freewheeler. ??

Got the stage 1 done at my dealer but haven't had a chance to see the bike done yet. Still waiting on delivery. I got the V&H power duals head pipes, trike extension kit and the trike mufflers. Contacted V&H and they don't seem to know what a freewheeler is. Was wanting to know if the trike mufflers fit the freewheeler . No one seems to know much. I have no idea how or if the trike mufflers fit the FLRT since they were designed for the tri-glide. Anyone have any exhaust input or information for these trikes?? More curious than anything. Not much information seems to be out there on what slip on mufflers fit these things. Thanks in advance.

I have CFR Megaphones on both wife's Tri-Glide and my Freewheeler. I installed them on the stock headers without any extensions or adapters. Even though the Freewheeler stock muffler is 2 1/2 inches shorter than the stock ones, the tail pipe will slip into the muffler far enough for the mufflers to position correctly. I did use a rotary file to clean any welding slag or splatter. Installing the rear mount is a real pain, I used a crow foot open end to tighten the rear bolt. If I had to do it again, I'd get a set of security torx bits and remove the rear valance and bumper if you have one.

What I'm saying is any muffler that will fit on the Tri-Glide will fit on the Freewheeler. The rear hangers line up with the mounting brackets.

The CFR mufflers I used are knock-offs of the real racing ones, but are only $175 for the pair.

Default Modified Stock mufflers with remove-able V&H cores

Well, I chose to use the stock mufflers on my FLRT. I just removed the stock baffle cores and mounted removable/replace-able Vance & Hines baffles in them instead. That cost me less that $100.00 and I love the way they sound and perform.........

I don't like most of the replacement mufflers out there now because the FLRT actually uses a shorter muffler and most are standard length to fit the TGs - so they tend to stick back a bit farther than I like........

I had a set of Hooker slip-on mufflers that came off my 2005 Electraglide CVO that fit my FLRT fine. I ran them for about a month but they were too loud and droned at hi way speed. I also had a set of stock Screaming Eagle mufflers off my 2005 and they fit also but were too quite so now I have the stock FLRT mufflers back on. I think any muffler that will fit the Tri-Glides or even the Electraglide or Road King will most likely fit fine; they are about 2 " longer. The biggest pain in the butt is getting the back hanger bolt out and in. I did it with a short 12 point 1/2" wrench but it took a lot of cursing.

Well, as posted above, I "re-baffled" my stock units and never took them off the trike to do it - took about 20 minutes......

How did you get the stock baffles out?

To remove the original, stock baffles, I drilled them out using a hole-saw. I selected a hole-saw that just fit over the stock baffles and, using a drill, drilled out the cores. (go SLOW and use some WD40 as a cutting coolant) I had to get a set of pliers to then pull them out. Next I removed most of the fiberglass wrap that was left over in the stock mufflers and then fitted the new V&H cores in place and drilled the hole in the bottom of each muffler for the set screw/bolt that would hold the V&H cores in their normal V&H muffler. I next used a spacer from the hardware store to allow the cores to be properly aligned in the HD mufflers

Also, I did use a round file and some sandpaper on the inner wall edge where I drilled out the stock cores - to knock off the rough and allow the replacement cores a proper fit/alignment.

I got the idea from a YuoTube video....

So, I have stock mufflers that don't stick out the ass; and, they have removable baffle cores as well.

I like the look (the V&H cores I chose are chrome with a roll-over rear edge), the sound, and the performance.

.....and, I especially like the cost!

Default Thank you!! As usual this forum comes through.

Appreciate all the information. Dealer is delivering trike tomorrow (probably tired of me calling asking when LOL).. but the next two days here are snow and unfortunately due to health issues I no longer fit in my leather bibs. So I am saving up for new bibs (read wider) and will look forward to friday when there is only a 20 percent of rain and snow. At 51 degrees on friday I can just use jeans. I'll make due. Thanks again for the information. I cant wait to get started riding this thing. I wish I had the mechanical skills of some of you all but I can just do a basic service and that s about it. Guess ill have to buy a lift from J&S and learn.

Ya know, Harley Davidson employees a lot of very high paid Engineers and Designers. I'd bet you could ride a completely stock Freewheeler for years and years and it would be just fine. The only changes I've made to my Freewheeler and wife's Tri-Glide is LOUD mufflers. Not for power gains, or to do wheel stands, just to be heard. When you get that scoot, ride it, enjoy it, have fun with it. Trikes weren't designed to drag race! Drive around and see the sights, smell the smells.

Yah, I too have to say that I don't have much affection for the sound of a stock, modern Harley mufflers, they are too quiet and mediocre sounding for my taste. I almost think Harley should just deliver their bikes and trikes without mufflers, or give you the option.....I wonder how many of them just get tossed? Seems like a waste to me......just my thinking.

Then again, I just changed the baffle-cores and achieved what I wanted........I could probably get another set odf stock muffelers off ebay and another set of V&H replacement cores for less that $125.00 and have a spare set to put away........

OK, maybe the answer is that the stock Harley mufflers should be made to have replaceable core baffles?

    Hello Springman
thanks for the idea. do you have a video of how it sounds? I like the sound I had on my fatboy w long shots and think it might be good on the new freewheeler. V&H have done nothing and don't seem to be interested. which baffle did you get from them? any pics of the work finished.
have looked at the cobra and d&d exhaust but not heard them.
any help or ideas would be appreciated.
    thanks

Below is a link to JP Cycles and the baffles I used. I actually got mine from Dennis Kirk, but these are them:

    www.jpcycles.com/product/441-019?utm_source=none&utm_term=%5B74947137970%3Aprod uct_type_l1%3D%3Dvehicles%2520%26%2520parts%26%252 0product_type_l2%3D%3Dland%2520vehicles%26%2520pro duct_type_l3%3D%3Dmot&cid=Google+SEARCH+NON-BRAND+PLA+-+Shopping+Campaign&adpos=1o1&creative=42040109650& device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CLGm3JrMtMYCFY kjgQodbhEEFQ

I did no videos or pictures of the install as there are tons of vids and write-ups on removing the stock Harley baffles - another seems pointless.

The installation of the replacement baffles is really simple and straight-up; so, it seemed pointless to document that as well. You just need a bolt and 1 inch spacer for each from the hardware store.

As for a sound bite - don't really have anything that is really going to give you a true sound recording, so that is pointless as well.

    That's cool.
I do not like loud exhaust on a touring machine. The cat less header gave me the sound I wanted.

I can not imagine riding a free with everything stock, header mainly. It will cook you in the summer heat.

I spoke with V&H on Friday. They don't have a release date yet, but they are working on some slip-on mufflers for the Freewheeler.

Kind of surprised they said that. When I ordered the CFRs for my Freewheeler AND Tri-Glide they were the same units (Part number) even though the Free mufflers are about 2" shorter. Rear brackets have enough adjustment to fit both, and the header pipe slips into the muffler to compensate for the different length. Seems to me that a V & H muffler that would fit a Tri-Glide would fit the Free.

    Good Luck

Default D&D 3 1/2" Touring Mufflers With Short Rounded Billet End Caps

The D&D Exhaust 3 1/2" Touring Mufflers with the short rounded Billet end caps and the 2" Vortex baffles (a D&D specific design) work great and sound awesome, deep and throaty but not obnoxious. They also give good ground clearance compared to the bigger 4" round muffler bodys and they fit the body cut outs nicely. Also the 2" baffles maintain low and mid torque better than the bigger around baffles out there like the 2 1/2" and bigger.

My Freewheeler runs great and sounds great with these mufflers. They are a little pricy but very well made.

    Ride Safe,

Through Jesus Christ, I a sinner am saved. Not by my doing but through his doing by his sacrifice and Blood Shed on the Cross. His gift to all mankind that will only believe and accept him by Faith. Through his Death and Resurrection I am Saved by Grace and someday I will be with our Lord in Heaven forever.
