    Default Kurakyn Universal Throttle Lock

I updated my post in the Suzuki section but thought I'd put this here since it's a universal throttle lock and someone may have one and can answer a question.

First off this throttle lock is too tight, when releasing the throttle doesn't go back, it barely moves and that is why the engine revved when I started it a few days ago after checking it out. I didn't realize the throttle wasn't back.

So I found this video on how to install it thinking I can reverse it and remove it. But after watching it a couple more times, toward the end the guy checks it out and tightened the screw or whatever on top so the throttle lock works right. I'm thinking since mine is the opposite I need to loosen it a bit. If anyone has this can you tell me what tool I need to loosen it? Is that a rachet he is using? I know a hammer, phillips and flathead screwdrivers, allen wrenches and that's about it. I'm willing to learn

    Here's the video: https://youtu.be/70QYJ3F8WUc

You are correct that he was using a ratchet with a socket. You can do the same thing with a open end wrench, box end wrench, or an open end adjustable ( crescent wrench ) if you have any of those. Loosen it up just slightly until it returns on its own at a quick rate. You don't want it dragging and returning to an idle slowly you want it to return to an idle quickly when you release it.

Is the thumb lever up or down?? Down in on and should be tight. Up is off and should be loose. You can roll thru it in the on position. Safety feature. Pliers, crescent wrench, socket or wrench will work.

If the above suggestions don't let the throttle return quickly, then you probably need to lube the throttle cable or it's got a broken wire that is dragging. But with the thumb switch in the up position and the adjuster backed off it should return quickly. I'm hoping you don't have a cable that is starting to fail myself. But I'd sure hate to see you go to all the trouble of complete removal and still have it not returning correctly. Back that adjuster way out before you go to all that trouble.

Thank you all! I'll stop on the way home tonight and get a tool to loosen it. It is in the off position but the throttle doesnt roll back but I can roll it back. Hopefully loosening it will work. If not it's coming off. LOL With such low miles on it (2330) I'm hoping its not the cable. I'm off tomorrow so I'll be out working on it and riding.

No offense intended .. but I'd leave that in the off (free throttle position) until you are more comfy with your baby ... always nice for YOU to be in control not some mechanical contraption ... I didn't use the cruise on my Tri for about 200 miles ... of course I didn't go on the highway till 200 miles either ...

I'm not too proud to admit that the "Fat Bottom Girl" scared me to death at first .... LOL ... of course that's true of all of them ..

Oh it will definitely be in the off position for a long time. I've never ridden a bike that has this. I use to ride a Honda 650 custom when I first got my license in '93. I was always in control of the throttle. That's why I wouldn't miss this if I removed it all together but thinking if I can get it adjusted right maybe in the very distant future if I take some really long rides it might come in handy. Even in the off position it won't let the throttle roll back on its own. That's what I'm not liking about it. I'll be out riding the next few weeks alot because I'd really like to ride it to work on our once a month staff meeting that for some reason is always on my day off and it's a 50 mile drive one way. Next meeting is April 16. A couple nurses ride 2 wheelers and one is wanting a trike. I think I shocked them when I told them I bought a trike so hey, I'd like to show off "Mad Maxx" to them. It's a girl thing I guess, like showing off new shoes or purses.

Jolie, I'm not familiar with your bike. Is it carbureted or fuel injected? I have one other idea if it's got a carburetor and it's still not backing off like it should. You may have to get some carburetor cleaner in an aerosol can with the long nozzle and spray that stuff on your linkage. I may be gummed up from sitting. Do this on a cool engine though. I think that's about all the "maybe's" that it might be that's not too hard to deal with. Good luck!!!!

It's fuel injected. I really think the culprit is the throttle lock. Will know in the morning when I get out there with my new tool in hand. Gonna have to get me a tool box. LOL

yes, the throttle lock is causing your problem. Ounce you start adjusting it and understanding how it works you'll figure it out. Put a couple of hundred miles on it before you try to use it. After you learn you won't leave home without it. I've learned to dive in traffic with it. Taking it on and off the bike is easy. Adjusting the 3 allen screws can be a pita.

Well I've been near tears for the last hour. Haven't got past too much of the end of my drive. I'm ready to put a for sale sign on the trike, I've probably bitten off too much since it's been a while since I rode.

That throttle is totally throwing me off. I've loosen the screw so much it's almost off with no difference but I still believe it's the culprit. When I let up to start a turn it's still revving and it's just playing with my head. I know I should roll it back because of the issue but I forget, a more experienced rider would probably deal with it. I'm just remember my safety course and previous riding and I'm so frustrated.

    Sorry to vent.

Ok, it's now a half hour later and I have the two screws undone and the side off that doesn't have the lever. I don't have a tool to undo the screws on the side the lever is on and my handy man is stopping by soon. Just with that one side undone my throttle is working almost normal it rolls back. I think once I get the other side off it will be perfect and that "thing" (I've been calling it choice words) is going in the trash. LOL

Yank that sucker off then. Your safety is much more important.

EDIT: I should have scrolled down and read the whole post.

You can always take a screwdriver and wedge it in twisting it off in pieces. I'm real good at breaking things.

I did get the whole thing off and it's in the trash. The throttle works fine now but I got very disheartened. Didn't make it out of the drive I got in a dip and kept killing it. Very discouraged. My handy man just stopped by and drove it down the block and turned it around and put it back in my shed. He said he thinks its geared kinda high whatever that means but he said its really nice trike. He has offered to ride it out to the high school on Sunday and me follow in his truck and show me some things and let me practice out there and then he'll ride it home. He said he can tell my confidence is down right now. While I was waiting for him I was thinking about putting it up for sale. He said I need to give it a chance.

Give it a chance girl it's no different than any vehicle with a clutch, you will soon learn just how much gas to give it to start off smoothly.
I can tell you from experience that it is one of the simple, fun and more easily handled trikes I have ever ridden and it has enough power to run with the big boys, I promise!
As I said I wouldn't mind putting this exact trike under my wife if I could afford one.
My buddy's wife has had hers for many years and it has been trouble free and maintenance friendly.

the difference between a good trike and a bad one depends entirely on the integrity of it's builder!

Whoa! Slow down, take a deep breath, try to relax a little.

Do you remember the first time you tried driving a car? Most people start out thinking that it's a piece of cake, then find out it's scary to get on the road and impossible to remember everything - gas, brake, clutch (okay I'm an old fart), turn signals, blind spots, etc, etc.

Most trikers find that it takes several hundred miles on safe roads and parking lot practice before it all feels natural.

Remember the basics - keep your feet on the pegs, it's push/pull steering, trikes are heavier than the 2 wheeler so leave some extra stopping distance, wide turns on corners. Search the forum for tips for new trikers.

Try to find someone in your vicinity who has been triking for awhile to ride with you. Don't know where Nokomis is but there are a bunch of Illinois members on this board.

We will all help you through this learning curve.

Patience Grasshopper ... good things will come to you ... your baby is gorgeous and you will be fine riding it ... if my Tri raced like that at me I'd get a tad raveled too ... we are all pulling for you ... we know you can do it ... and we know you will love it once you get the bugs out.

I just did a quick search on the Trike Talk community and see that there are currently 78 members in Illinois and at least 2 dozen have been posting on this board from time to time.

Thank you for the encouragement. I've been down with a terrible sinus infection and a cough that won't stop (hazards of working with sick people) been to the Dr twice myself in the last week. I think I should get to feeling better and try it again Sunday at the high school. Dan, my handy man who is so good to me, loves the trike says it rides nice and it's easy to turn when you're moving good. I was trying to take off and turn at the same time and he says it's much different when you get going. Oh and I learned to drive on a stick shift at 15 so I'm an old fart too lol. The one thing I'm really thankful for is that throttle lock is off. I'll hang in there, Sunday will be a better day. When I had it stuck on the boulevard at the end of the drive it looked like it was out there for sale, several people went by a couple times to look at it, no other Tramps like it in town. Glad I didn't put a sign on it. Sunday will be a better day. And I plan on staying very close to home for at least the first month.

Yikes. I'm glad you calmed down. Had me scared there reading for a bit. Now that you aren't fighting the throttle lock everything is different. That thing may have been helping you and you didn't realize it. Tomorrow everything will be much better. After you've completely calmed down. You'll get there.

Sunday will be my next try. My handy man is going to ride it to the high school and then I can practice all I want and he'll ride it back for me. Baby steps. I didn't realize just how weak I am. I went to supper with my mom tonight and only ate about 1/3 of my steak & sides if that much. My ribs feel like they are broken from coughing. I really need to get back to 100%. I don't want to throw the towel in just yet. It will be a while before I even venture out of this small town but I really do want to ride again. If other women can ride trikes so can I. I'm off to be early. You guys are great to listen to me whine (and I really do detest drama and I feel like that's what I did today.
