Default Fat Bottom Girl aims for a swim

So I went for my favorite burger ride (Green River, Ut about 110 miles each way) today ... on the way back I was playing with the power vision, setting up the gauges, at 80 mph ... not my sharpest move. There's a curve between Loma and Fruita that mirrors the Colorado River. The road curved ... I didn't ... came about a foot from the guard rail ... first power slide on the gal .. after I got the trike back on the road and under control, I pulled over in Fruita, checked my shorts, and disconnected the cable to the pv ... when I got home, I removed it from the permanent mount, and removed the mount ...

if I need to tune it again, I'll do it from my pocket like I did before mounting it. Clearly I don't have the self control to have it mounted ... too big a temptation.

By the way ... shorts where fine but it was close ...

Even if they weren't, All you have to do is turn them inside out, Then they'll be good for another white knuckle flight.....

I can see where a PV could be worse than a smart phone if you weren't careful...an easily justified distraction. I still want one.

Glad you got to experience how stable the TG is in a situation like that.

Glad you came out of it ok.

Glad you took it off the trike.

Anything which takes your eyes off the road can be bad news, GPS, tuner, smart phone, even the radio. It is amazing how much can happen in those brief seconds we look away from our path of travel. Glad it worked out for you and your all right.

I know where you're coming from, I just bought a new Ram truck and it has a big touch screen, And any time I touch it to change something I'm off the road... It's an age thing, My Sons can operated it at highway speeds without a hitch..

Just touching it to change screens would of been fine ... Setting up gauges to look at other stuff ... Not so much ... I still love the thing ... Might put it back on for my long burger trip ... May 2-4 ... Like to be able to monitor stuff ... Just gonna set it up while in the driveway ... LOL ... I like the 6 readout screen ... Thinking engine Temp ... Coolant temp ... Not sure what else I should like at ... Never had choices before ... Anyone know if this thing can set up alarms ... Or warnings ... Then I wouldn't have to look at it ... Just let me know if stuff goes wrong

Ya know ... One good thing did come out of this (I'm a silver lining kinda guy) .. I now know just how stable the tri is ... on 2 wheels ... I'd probably be swimming or dead ... not that I wanna experience the stability again ... LOL ... I'm looking at the experience like practicing panic stops in a parking lot on steroids ... good learning experience, but I think I'm done "practicing" ...

I see how easy this can happen. I took my dad's for a tuning run out behind Utah lake here which has some long straightaways with very little traffic and still a little wander here and there... Not good to have these added distractions.. I'm not mounting it permanently for my dad... he already has to squint and try to read stuff, by the time he figures out what one of theses small displays is showing, he might be in the next life or back on the pavement for the 11th or 12th time in his life. He parked his sportster in the great salt lake at 70mph once.. Fell asleep coming back from Nevada.. turned his front wheel into a half moon. Fortunately the lake is very shallow and he was only three or four feet deep. Have no idea how he got it out by himself but I'm pretty sure he wasn't drowsy anymore.

I don't like that 90* turn down that road !
A guy I worked with from Milford had an Ultra that he took the fence out on that turn when he fell asleep. Said he woke up just as he hit the fence. Spent almost 2 months in the hospital. It spit him out into the field. His bike was repaired with front forks & wheel. Sold both of his bikes & hasn't ridden since.

Yeah I know exactly where you're talking about. Sorry to hear about your friend, I'm glad he recovered. Very few times I go for a ride and not think about the what-ifs, how quick it can all change, and how if anything serious ever happens, it won't have been worth it. Especially if it's not just me hurt. For someone prone to realism and worry, I wonder if it will get the better of me one day. Then again there are thousands of riders who have ridden millions of miles with no serious problems.

My dad on the other hand was nearly killed in two motorcycle accidents and moderately hurt in a few others. Cracked his helmet in half on a guard rail and lost his taste and ability to smell about twenty years ago. Wrecked and got pinned under a car another time. Parked in the lake antoher time. He never stopped riding. I'm pretty sure I would have. Glad he's on a trike now, but still pretty vulnerable.
