Cool Louder BARK and performance increase...

Replaced the stock FLRT pipes with Vance & Hines pipes.... WOW!! Looks sick! And I can be HEARD! Came with a huge performance increase... Accelerates better & my speed-to-shift points have changed dramatically! I was taking up on the highway... and where I'm usually hitting 6th, I felt like there was more power, looked down, and I was only in 5th... kicked it into 6th, and it felt like I was flying! Now if I could only dyno it... nobody up here is equipped for a trike. I'll have to do it while I'm at Sturgis!

No offence meant but those mufflers stick out the back of the Freewheeler way to far.

I have V&H head pipes, and trike mufflers on mine as well . I actually like the way they stick out on the back. Makes the trike look like an old hot rod. Like you I love the way they sound and yeah they do make the bike haul ass. .... On another note I think they will be a tad easier on the passenger as they will not be rumbling right under her. Even though they only stick out a couple of inches more than stock that should help some. If you do get the FLRT dynoed post up results . I am curious.

Ah....no. Having the mufflers stick out the ass like that does not appeal to me in the least. (Sorry, but it is truly the way I feel .)

I took an alternate approach. I kept the stock muffler housings and replaced their baffles with Vance & Hines baffles.

I now have the V&H rumble I love; and, the baffles are removable. All for about $100.00 and 1/2 hour of my time.

And, my MPG seem to go up a mile per gallon and running temperature is down 4 degrees.

But, the big difference is the noticeable pickup in the throttle response - the mod seems to be letting the system breath deeper - and that is what I really wanted.

When backing up the OP will have to be real careful not to jam those puppies into a curb or something sticking up. It looks like they are sticking out a good 6 - 12 inches.

I could see something like that happening. Trike sitting in a parking lot where a couple of hill jacks are chewing the fat, when one of them decides to take a rest with his foot on one of them.

I'd be worried about cutting my shins or burning them ... kinda like the old fish tails .. still got a scar from a set of those ... but each to his own.

I'm wondering if its the angle of the photo. My pipes stick out as well but only just over an inch.

Not wanting to hijack the OP's thread could you make a new thread oh how you did this? I still have stock mufflers and put on my list new slip ons.

Well, please note that my muffler housing are stock. I just used a hole saw and drill to remove the stock baffle cores and replace thewm with the V&H baffles specified. For the most part, they look virtually stock.

There are plenty of threads and You-Tube clips on using a hole-saw to remove stock muffler baffle cores - I won't add to the pile on that one.

When you get the V&H baffle, you will note ther is threaded bolt hole in the side that is used to secure the baffle in the outer muffler housing. You will simply use the alignmen tof that threaded bolt hole to drill a corresponding hole in the HD stock muffler housing (remember to measure and check your hole alignment twice and drill just once). Then buy your self a a set of 1 inch spacers and bolts from the Hardware Store to mount them. I found it really simple and cheap. And, I love them......

When HD added the cats in the header and I was getting excessive heat I first went with a catless header. The fulsac DX header with the round cross over and discovered that is all that was needed. The tone was deeper and more sound. The round cross over instead of the flat squashed one made a big difference. The ceramic coated aided in less heat as well as the cat being gone.
I never do a stage 1 or 2 before my second oil change. I do it after the 2 nd or third oil change. The engine has loosened up by then so I only need one tune done instead of doing 2 or so. I have them dyno tuned with a Power vision that my tuner has so the only cost is the tune.
I would rather spend the $400 + on other things.
I have a very good tuner, he uses the newest Dyno jet dyno that does, 2/3/4 wheels including 4 wheelers. My resluts are always good and never have had to take one back for any reason.
The pipes look good and the op is happy then I am happy for him.
