Harley Boom! Box GPS updates?

I have the Boom! Box 6.5 in my new TriGlide. How often do the maps on the GPS navigation unit need to be updated? My Garmin GPS units in the cars and truck get a map update about every 4-6 months, but I haven't seen any info on updating the maps in the H-D units.

Watching this one close too ... having so much fun, didn't think about updating Mr. GPS ... Wondering if you go through HD ... or whoever makes the Nav part of the Infotainment System?

Not sure if the HD updates for the Boom Box also update the maps (don't see why not but don't know), but there are updates on the HD website in the owners area.

The gps is linked to the boom box update procedure. Search boom box update there is a link. I am not aware of any boom box update.

I thought you had to go to Naviextras to get those. The owners tab on the HD web site under Boom Box has a link. Looks like they are not free and not very current.

The GPS updates are not free and are not included in the Boom updates. According to the owner site, they come out yearly and are available for a fee. I went to the Navi site and apparently you have to connect to the unit somehow to get updates even when you purchase them. But after seeing they were yearly and for a fee, I didn't research any farther.

Does anyone know what is actually contained in any map update? There can't be that many "things" change that can be worth $100 or so!
Got one update for my Wing Nav(at a much reduced price) and other than a change in the way the maps are displayed, I found nothing "better" than what it came w/in 06!
Most of us use these units for mapping routes for "vacations" to places we've not been to and what really changes to require updates?
In the case of the non-user friendly Wing Nav, mapping a route w/"the shortest distance" can lead one to some very interesting, unwanted, back roads! Done this once for a trip to a favorite spot in Southern Indiana and thought I heard a pig squeal along the way while Dueling Banjos was playing

The major roads and highways don't change that often, but local addresses DO change and new construction can be enough to keep the mapmakers busy. If you depend on your GPS to find specific addresses for things like businesses, hotels/restaurants or even a local motorcycle dealership, it's best to have current maps. We found this out the hard way when driving long-haul cross country trips on 18 wheels.

I have a 14 trike and am not a fan of the built in gps that is why I run a garmin zumo 590LM. Don't have to worry about paying for map updates they are free for life on my zumo.
