What is the best after market part you have added to your RIDE?

I am looking into adding something to my ride, just wanted to see what your thought where on what I should go with???

That is not an easy answer. The best water bottle holder I have added to my Trike is my Hog Troughs. Best floorboard extensions I have added are the ones from DK Customs. Same for the MacAir system.

Without a doubt, it is the Butler Mug and Holder ... been on every bike I've owned since 1998 (rider and passenger, although the passenger hasn't been used in awhile). Yeah .. a little pricey, but, it's lasted 17 years and still looks like it did the day I bought it. A little bulky as I go with the 32 oz version (small one for the passenger). Maybe not the prettiest thing out there, but, if you're looking for function and durability you won't beat it. Only thing I've done to it when moving from bike to bike is to change the screws that hold it on. From Goldwing to Harley, Harley to BMW, BMW back to Harley.

The other thing is just as a matter of course, I buy a new mug every year. I have some major scaring in my throat (long story) so I'm constantly drinking something to keep it moist, even in the middle of the night I'll get up get a drink and lay back down, usually without waking up. This mug is with me all the time 24/7/365 and it still lasts a full year. Probably would last longer, but the lid starts to leak a tiny bit and that annoys me, so since I'm buying a new lid I get a new mug, I'm worth it. LOL The mug is insulated and only once, in Indiana (really humid) did it sweat from condensation, not bad. I get the white mug, makes me feel like my drink will stay cooler in it than the black one ... who knows. I've even taken the lid off, put it in the tourpak and got a slurpy at 7-11 and just slid the cup into the mug, although in hind sight, I should of dumped the slurpy into the mug and used the lid, would of stayed colder, but, that might have led to brain freeze and I can't afford to loose to many of the cells I have left.

They are available at Glassact.com. I guess I need to add here that I have no affiliation with the in any capacity, with the possible exception of I was the test bike for the passenger version for the GL1800's (unpaid, LOL, I just wanted to get one and happened to be first) ... the people there are great to work with.

If you enjoy a drink every once in awhile and not overly critical about how it looks, you will love this drink holder.

Way too many options to that question. The first thing I would consider is comfort. What do I need to be more comfortable? For me it was longer floorboards with offsets to get my feet away from the pipes. Exhaust is another big item, but that is a matter of opinion.
If the trike is new to you, ride it for a while, you'll then know what you need to change.

#1 - Aftermarket seat. hated the stock seat, got one specially built for us. 600 mile days not a problem.

#2 - GPS. We go on long mile weekend rides where it's "Hey - that road looks interesting!". We get totally lost just riding interesting looking roads. Hit the 'home' button and "The Bitch In The Box" (she is always telling me where to go) gets us home. A few weeks ago we left at 8:00am and went "that way". About 1/4 left of our second tank of gas that day (about 250 miles) and we decided to head back. Didn't know where we were, asked the GPS to get us home. Turns out we were only 40 miles from the house!


#3 - Bubba Hero Sport bottle. Mine is gray topped, Gloria's is pink, we use the 24oz version on the trike. They come in 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 oz sizes. They seal so are pretty much leakproof, a straw is built in to the top so we can drink without a mug blocking a view of the road. They keep water and ice cold like nobody's business. We fill up with cold water and 5 home size ice cubes - sunny, 95° and above, we have never had all the ice melt before we had to get gas where we refill and re-ice. I made my own mount for our bubba bottles, but there are some you can buy that fit the larger bottles. We had the Butler mugs, and were not impressed. Ice melted quicker than in the Bubba, even when we had the 32 oz cup and had more ice in it. They are not leakproof, the mount is fugly, but they do have a handle, and the mount comes in the kit.


#4 - Specialised riding clothes. - good raingear is a must, especially if you tour. Sooner or later you will ride in the rain. We hae evaproative cooling vests for those aforementioned 95° and above days, and heated jacket liners (I also have the heated gloves) for the other end of the spectrum. We have used all 3 items on the same week-long trip, and was very happy to have them.

For me..it's all about my wife's comfort. Tour box extender, Kuryakan Armrests, Kuryakan Adjustable passenger footpegs, Hog Trough, BrightAss tail lights...and on and on...

Now that you have a list of the great add-ons, I'll give you my worst. Replaced the air temp gage with an oil temp gage. After a zillion posts here and on the 'other' board I put one on. for the next 55,000 miles I was more concerned with looking at the oil temp than I was enjoying all of Gods Glorious scenery. I finally realized that all of the Harley's I have had in the past didn't have an oil heat problem, so I put the air temp gage back in and stopped worrying.

One thing? Comfort on long rides is why I have a Tri-Glide. For me, they are not comfortable from the factory, and if I could only add one thing it would not be enough.

In this thread, post #9 is my initial list of things I did, most of them to get the TG fitted to me and Mary so we could do long rides in comfort.

Fuel Moto 4 piece install.. ceramic headpipe, tuned mufflers, stage 1 air and a PC 5 tuner. heat reduction and much improved engine performance.
