tuning weber idf 40

I have dual idf 40's on my trike. 1600cc stock motor. I had a flat spot right after shifting gears. It had 45 low speed jets and I went to 55's and it seemed to have straightened it up. I only rode it a short ride. I want to start over completely on tuning them and I have read several articles. I understand most everything except the air bleed screw. Some say it should be in all the way and some say it should be out from one half to one turn. I don't understand if it should be used in the tuning part. Some say it should be used by experience turners only which I am not. If anyone could shed any light on this I would appreciate it. Thanks

As I have always understood it.
The air bleeds have their purpose. Mainly as a single carb and/or on an intake with a plenum. Our individual runner set ups that we use they should be closed and all the idle air come from open butterflies / idle stop.

Well that is a good explanation. Never thought of that. When I get out there next week and tune on them I will have them closed. Hope I can get them right and my gas mileage gets a little better also. I 'm gonna have to go back to my bike so I can afford to ride. I'll let you know what happens.

Awesome Starrider! Glad to hear positive feedback on doing the tuning yourself man!

Now you don't have to rely on the mechanic "down the road" to do the carb tuning bro. :p

Right tool for the job and a little trial and error usually always pay off in the end. :clapping:
