    Default stuff you carry.......

Ok, i'm on a roll here asking questions. Hope I don't annoy any of you. Now that i'm on three wheels I have a trunk. I'm curious what kind of stuff ya'll carry around with you all the time? When I only had my jacket pockets I carried my license, ins papers, cell phone & credit card.

A special request to the other female riders/passengers on what they think is important. Maybe it's being a girl myself but the first thing I thought of was wet wipes for wiping off road grime & hair ties as a cure for helmet hair.

So ladies & gents, what am I missing as my wanderings get farther from home? Feel free to email or PM me if you'd rather.

    thanks.....janetb

We carry papers pertaining to the Trike. First-aid kit, raingear, chaps, sunscreen, sunglasses &toolkit. Also I have a couple of index cards that I carry in the trunk, taped to the inside lid and on them I have listed info on the medications we may be taking and any allergys plus who to contact in case of emergency. In the fall I also throw in a fleece vest for each of us. When I pull the trailer thats another story.....LOL

I carry exactly what I carried when on two wheels, except now that I have storage my rain gear & extra sweatshirt are always in my trunk instead of Mike's saddlebag (much to his joy ). I do have a little pouch in which I keep some wet wipes and a little bottle of hand sanitizer, but really nothing more.

Tire gauge, rain gear, camera, night vision glasses. I always keep an older bath towel in the bottom of the trunk to keep things from rattling. Small assortment of tools (in case someone else breaks down ), microfiber towel, wet chamois in a plastic tube, Nexis for the bugs on the windshield, a spare tire and jack. Laptop with wireless USB and 120v converter, printer and spare ink. Bungee cords and 100' towing rope with hooks. Speaking of hooks I keep a tackle box, waders and fishing rod. Have to use artificial bait but I do keep a small can of Green Giant Kernel Corn for the native trout. My boyscout pocket knife with integrated compass and can opener. Sleeping bag and MRE's, firewood and propane stove comes in handy. Don't carry a tent anymore since the spine rods got caught in the trunk hinge and broke.

Flashlight and spare batteries are a must ya know.

Change of clothes, fresh undies and socks, beard/mustache trimmer, shampoo and soap for those nasty days and let's not forget the all important deodorant. Spare keys and a $20.00 bill in case I loose my wallet when fishing and pulling in the big one's with the 100' towing rope while wearing my waders and get pulled under by the current. This is when the bath towel really comes in handy so I don't get the laptop wet when I'm sending a 911 distress call and posting pictures of the big one that got away. As for what's in the tour pack... I keep it empty. Don't want to get poor gas mileage by carrying too much.

    OK,OK... seriously...

I keep a towel in the bottom to stop any rattle, a spare 20 is with my insurance papers. I put them in a plastic packing slip sticky thingy stuck to the inside of the trunk. I keep a tire gauge, suntan lotion for my face and arms and keep some small hand tools. Night glasses are in a soft case next to a small first aid kit. I have a helmet bag with draw strings that I keep most of this stuff in so I can transfer it to another bike quickly. I keep a set of bungee cords in case I need to carry something on the luggage rack but that's about it.

Dang Wiz! That list sounds like what I had jammed on the Ultra for last summer's 3 week trip 'cept I had the tourpak crammed full too! Ya forgot panty hose to get the bugs off the paint & an emergency final drive belt. What kinda fishin' pole ya got? I got a nice little Daiwa travel rod & reel set up & it's case is JUST big enough to get the essencial tackle inside it -- except for the can of Green Giant Nibblets. So far, with that rig, they've ALL been big ones that got away, but I haven't taken a serious fishin' trip with it -- YET!

When Pest goes along, she doesn't take anything she can't cram in her pockets for fear I'll bring up when I let her pack for a camping trip years ago -- 'cuz she DID pack the kitchen sink!

I must say she's learned a LOT since then with all the years of Historical reenactments. While it's NICE to have all the comforts of home on a camping trip, ya gotta pack ALL that stuff back up to go home & it never packs as tightly on the return trip.

Small flashlight, disposable gloves, duct tape, tire gauge, small towel, wipes, first aid kit. Rain suit if needed, spare eyeglasses, hide a spare key, hide a $20 bill. Maybe a pair of sneakers to walk around in. Change of clothes? Tom

Let's see... in the trike lower trunk we carry: trike cover, tool roll, one of those "Absorber" faux chamios, Gloria's hoodie, Gloria's rain gear (rain suit, rain mits and rain booties) her chaps, air hose for the on-board compressor, first aid kit and a small size California Car Duster. If we know we will need the space and it isn't going to rain or get cold, we'll leave the cover, rain gear and hoodie. Most of the time it all lives in the trunk, though. As I also ride a 2 wheeler, my rain gear gets transferred as needed. In the upper trunk is a light pullover long sleeve microfiber shirt for each of us, a roll of purple duck(duct) tape, motorcycle jumper cables, a pair of her gloves, pen, paper, sunscreen, a few pair of vinyl gloves, a few sets of ear plugs, Registration, insurance, etc along with $10 in a fiver, 3 ones, 6 quarters, 4 dimes and 2 nickels. Also 2 collapsable can coozies and a t-shirt made into a windshield cover. In the lid organizer: small Mag Lite, fuzes, a 30 amp relay, 6' of 20ga wire, crimp connectors and shrink tube, a lighter, adapters for the power outlets and the rain cover for the seat and armrests. In the under- speaker pocket on the right side, 5 Zubs or whatever brand microfiber tubes (these things: Motorcycle Zub, multifunctional, versatile, exciting and fun new headwear product. ) in the left side is a small pack of tissues and an eyeglass repair/cleaning kit.
Gloria keeps a set of clear, yellow and dark glasses in the left under armrest pouch. In the front left fairing pocket a power cord for the Mp3 player, a cassette adapter and some velcro straps live.

Wow - I never realized we always hauled so much crap around with us.

Something I see no one has mentioned that Pest insists I take along is my leash -- uh -- cell phone. On long, runs that means the charger too.

Geez, this topic scares me... I carry the essentials like a tool-kit, wet-weather gear etc... but when I tidy up my luggage every now and then, I find things that have been missing for months, small change, empty water bottles, t-shirts that I took on a rally months before... yup, you guessed it, I'm a bit of a slob when it comes to organization. My trike always looks great externally, but what lurks beneath the lid of my trunk is anybody's guess.

I'm begining to regret asking this myself. Thanks everyone, clearly i'm probably the one with the least trunk space on my spyder. But I see several things I think I may add. Especially the fix-a-flat type stuff, flash light, towel & cash. I have to admit, my idea of a mechanical repair is a cell phone & biggest brother's phone #. Thanks for all the suggestions....except maybe that wedding dress....can't wait to see where the list goes from here.

And any shampoo or that kind of stuff, I always put in a sealable plastic bag in case it bursts open.

I had that happen once when riding through South Dakota in the 110 f heat.
Those types of liquids just expand and expand in the heat and burst open, then what a mess to clean up after.

I now always carry a cooler when riding in warmer temps.

OK Dave, we see what you carry for 1 night, how about 2 weeks? I thought my wife packed a lot.

The only item I carry on every ride is my 9MM.
