throttle cable parts

I have a Solex 30/31 carb that I am now going to run a soft throttle cable to instead of the hard linkage I now have. I have looked at universal throttle assemblys and kinda like the Biltwell. Spendy at $100 but hoping it functions better than cheaper ones. I see the ratrace throttle cable and it looks cheap. I need a housing that would attach to the throttle assembly but not sure what to buy. The housing is the threaded on part that bends the cable out of the throttle assembly. Not sure what this is suppose to be called. Also, does anyone know of a kit that is designed for the solex that will take a throttle cable and is adjustable? I have never seen a cable that came on a Beetle so not sure what that would look like. Thanks much.

EBAY is your friend. What diameter bars do you have? Metric cycles are generally 7/8" and Harleys are 1" O.D. Find a throttle assembly that looks nice and you will also get some switches. Searching Ebay for trike throttle cables will probably yield a listing for something like a 12 ft universal cable that can be trimmed to length. Then all you need is a bracket to secure the outer cable jacket at the carburetor end and one of these http://www.amazon.com/EMPI-BUGGY-THR.../dp/B00EKUKL5U to fit in the carburetor throttle lever. Dune buggy suppliers are a good source for this. Thesamba.com has a lot of built pictures that will help you figure this out.

One of the reasons I like VW trikes is that it lets me solve problems and express myself.

From what I have heard, they have good quality cables and have them up to 120" which at 10 feet might not be enough.

However, they may be able to make custom lengths as well.

Thanks--I have apes on my trike and am looking for the tubing that extends out of Harley throttle assembly that is usually stainless steel I believe. Anyone know what this part is called? the part angles the throttle cable in the right direction and prevents cable from swinging around while steering. Thanks again.

I know the part your talking about, kind of a "J" tube that attaches to the throttle housing on the handle bars. I, for the life of me, can't seem to think of the technical term for it now.

I know the part your talking about, kind of a "J" tube that attaches to the throttle housing on the handle bars. I, for the life of me, can't seem to think of the technical term for it now.

Add some good whisky and the memory only gets better over time--ha. If you think of what this is called get back with me. I need to rout the cable about two feet to the bottom of the bars before I can angle a cable into the hole and back to the engine.

I emailed this guy and asked if the cable is thick enough to run 12 foot and he wasn't sure. Most cable is only 1/16". Pretty thin.

I have never had one that long.
A very long time ago I worked at the motorcycle shop.
They had bulk cable. I pushed the motorcycle jacketed cable through the stock tube in my dub. Used that for many years. But it may have been brake cable size though. Can't really remember for certain, all I remember is I found a size that would go in the vw tube.

I'm not sure if I understand the question but this is how mine is set up. Mine uses a regular throttle cable about 3 foot long with the carb end cut off. It runs down the frame neck thru a piece of bent brake tubing to get the angle to the rear of the trike right. Then is cable clamped to a VW soft cable that takes it back to the carb. Works great

I will check to see what I might have, but let me know your wants are from minimum to full package deal. Sounds like on the minimum you need the 90 degree cable guide that secures in the throttle housing, and what complete package would help you? (I have some new stock that might fill the bill)

The "J" tube (for lack of a better name) you are looking for typically comes as part of a motorcycle throttle cable assembly.
I was unable to find just a "J" tube anywhere when I built my trike last year.
Since I'm running a HD 1" throttle, I went on Craigslist & found a guy that upgraded his stock black cables to stainless style. I bought one of his cables & used the 33", +or - cable outer jacket that included the elusive "J" tube, & joined the HD cable to one I purchased from go kart supply. (Stinger has their link posted above)
I used electrical heat shrink tubing to "marry" up the outer HD cable to the outer cable housing from go kart supply & used about 8~9 feet of the 12' go kart supply inner cable to reach the engine.
Sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't, & it works like a charm.
If you're running a "metric" throttle, the same "J" tube part should be readily available on Craigslist too.
