Default Freewheeler Nightrider FL-Vied-10 Installed Today..

I think the Freewheeler trike stock runs really well. With that said, I still feel the closed loop fuel ratio of 14.6 from the factory is to lean for an air cooled motor. (We spend the majority of our riding time in closed loop)

I installed the Nightrider FL-Vied-10 units and set them to control the closed loop fuel ratio at 14.2 or at the 50% set point. I also tried the 75% or 14.0 set point and it was a tad to rich feeling for my set up. (13.9 to 14.2 are good ratios for the closed loop operation depending on the bike and the upgrades)

My Freewheeler runs very nice at this set point 50% or 14.2 ( My set up= stock air box with K&N replacement air filter, stock ECM mapping, D&D 3 1/2" slip on mufflers with the 2" Vortex baffles) The idle and cruz is smoother. The throttle response is crisp and solid and the very small amount of decal popping I had every now and then is gone.

The FL-Vied-10 do exactly what they say and are a cost effective way to increase performance and cooling when a full blown tuner is not needed.

    Ride Safe All,
    Bill G

Is a Nightrider FL-V iED-10 the same as a FL-X iED-10? There's one for sale on "For Sale & WTB" for a pittance

    http://www.triketalk.com/forum/threads/27647-FL-XiED-10

Also, DK Custom Products has 'em on sale ~ be a great gift for Fathers Day

the only diff i know is the vied you can adjust and the xied, like i have you can't, the xied takes it from a 14:6:1 stock and brings it up to a 14:0:1 adds a little

I think the FL-Xied-10 unit you mentioned is the non adjustable version and has a fixed variable for the fuel ratio of around 14.0. In most cases I think most bikes will run well at that ratio. My set up felt a tad rich at the 14.0 ratio but would have been ok, just felt better at the 14.2 ratio.

The FL-Vied-10 has the adjustable pot on it so the fuel ratio can fine tuned in the ranges of between 13.9 to 14.3 or 14.4 with the 2010 and later touring model Harley's with the 4 wire heated Delphi oxygen sensors.

There easy to install so I would say give the FL-Xied-10 a try and see how they work. If the fuel ratio is not right for you then the FL-Vied-10 adjustable units are only $119.00

let us know how it works out.

(Note.) On the Freewheeler there is a sweet little grounding block just inside the frame on the right side for the grounds. It's easy to get to you will see the negative from the battery and the rest of the Freewheelers ground wires going to it.

    Bill G

I need to get in some good rides and check the mileage out. I was getting between 35mpg & 39mpg before with my set up.

In theory I added 4% more fuel so I should get 4% less on my mileage averages. But we all know there are variables in play here when riding.

I am curious how my mileage averages will turn out and will post them after a few tanks of fuel.

Well we road 118.2 miles round trip today to Tehachapi for breakfast. The ride is all freeway riding at 70 mph to 75mph with about 30% to 35% of the ride going up a steep grade.

Last time I did this ride I got Right at 33.5 mpg with my Freewheeler (pretty good uphill, higher freeway speeds) and today we got 31.94mpg with the FL-Vied-10 installed and set at 50% and the Trike ran excellent.

I decided to set the FL-Vied-10 at 45% and did a quick test ride and the trike still seemed to run really well but a longer ride will confirm.

I will do the same ride again as mentioned and then do another milage check. I also will compare how the Freewheeler performs at the 45% set point compaired to the 50% set point on the FL-Vied-10 settings. If the Trike runs good and the milage increases a little at the 45% set point I will leave it there. If it does not perform as well I will set it back to the 50% setting and except the milage decrease because the Trike ran excellent and cooler.

This little test should give me enough information to make the best over all decision concerning the best set point for my set up. ( A little fine tuning to verify)

    (Update)

I took another long ride today with side cover off the Trike so I could have access to the FL-Vied-10 setting adjusters. I also took a small jewelers screwdriver to make adjustments as needed.

I tried both the 45% and the 50% settings and the 75% setting again. Hands down the 50% setting worked best for my set up giving better throttle responce and no decel popping. The 45% setting had weaker throttle responce and some decel popping. The 75% setting was like I said before a tad rich for my set up and did not provide as crisp of throttle response, more sluggish feeling.

50% is where I will keep the FL-Vied-10 units on my Freewheeler Trike.

    Ride Safe All,
    Bill G

Thanks for posting this information. I just received mine today from Nightrider and am about to install them. I got the FL Vied 10 and will be installing on a bone stock 2015 Freewheeler.

Let us know how that goes. I am leaning towards this also.
I see you are from Lansdale. Grew up in Warrington. Graduated from CB West in 1979 and left for the Army. Haven't lived in that area since. Miss the Philly area food though.

    Wendy G,

I bet you a Dollar to a Donut the 50% set point will work great for you. I have done a lot of research and it seems like the 50% set point seems to be the sweet spot for most Harley set ups from stock to slightly modified. ( My 2012 Fat Boy liked the 50% setting as well with the FL-Vied-10 units installed on it)

Don't forget there is a nice grounding block just inside the frame on the right side on the Freewheeler. With your seat off you will see it, the ground block has the battery ground and the rest of the bikes grounds going to it. (A perfect spot for your ground wires. These ground wires are critical for proper function of the FL-Vied-10 units).

Let us know how it turns out...

Through Jesus Christ, I a sinner am saved. Not by my doing but through his doing by his sacrifice and Blood Shed on the Cross. His gift to all mankind that will only believe and accept him by Faith. Through his Death and Resurrection I am Saved by Grace and someday I will be with our Lord in Heaven forever.

I actually got the FL AF XIED 10. My bad .
It was very easy to install, and thanks for the tip on where to attach the ground wires. I did not make any adjustments yet as I did not get to take the bike out for any length of time and it rained all day today. Hope to get out tomorrow and will post my observations to all of you who asked my opinion.
Nice to see other trikers on here from the Philly suburbs!

    OK Bill and Kevin

Bill, as another desert rat riding in the So. Cal. heat I let you convince me, Kevin, I just ordered the FL-Vied's for my Free. When it works as well as Bill says it will, I'll be ordering a set for wife's Tri. Both scoots did seem to loose a tad of bottom end with the 4" Megaphone Mufflers, and they aren't blackening up enough to make me comfortable.

When I got old I promised myself I'd leave my scoots stock. Oh Well, another promise from me to me broken. It's off to hell I go

    Why 3 wheels?

because 2 isn't enough and 4 is too many
