Default Changed My Mind I Am Going With A Diffrent Stage 1 Air Cleaner On The Freewheeler Now

This Stage 1 kit from Jamie at Fuel Moto allows me to use my stock My Rushmore design A/C cover. The S&S stage 1 kit that I was going to get and posted in another thread did not allow the newer Mt Rushmore style cover to be used.

I like the Factory snorkel cover on the 2014 and newer Harley touring bikes. It works more like a cold air intake in my opinion and I really like that about it.

Also this Stage 1 set up will cost me a little less. It never hurts to accomplish the same thing and not spend as much doing it

You have a link to the cleaner?
    Keystone,

I was not able to get it to link for some reason. Just go to www.fuelmoto.com then select the parts for Harley tab. Then just put in the year and model and hit search. Then scroll down until you get to the Pro Billet Air Cleaner for the 2014 & 2015 models about halfway down the page.

    Hope this helps...

Looks good ... I really liked the look of the Rushmore Air Cleaner, Just couldn't use my insert. Went with the old oval, I can use my insert as a cover, but then I need the rain sock when it rains.

I am using the the ac you spoke about. It was the easiest ac i ever did. Took 20 minute to do. It will sure breathe now. I like the new sound with the catless header. Sound is subjective but I like the sound. Almost perfect for me.

Default Another Quick Thought Concerning This Stage 1 Kit

    Just a quick thought...

As the air passes through the snorkel in the factory air cleaner cover going down the road, it would naturally be forced out the backing plate holes on this kit towards the cylinders. I wonder if this would add some minimal cooling to the cylinders when going down the road??

    Just a thought

Good question, i have no answer for it though.
I do know rain does not effect the ac. We ride 30 miles iin a monsoon with no ill effects.

Maybe a dumb question but why not just change out the oem paper element in the Rushmore a/c for a higher flow K&N element? Does the Stage 1 base flow that much more? I just purchased a complete 2014-15 Rushmore air cleaner assembly and sure hate to throw most of it away, then have to spend another $150+.

A k&n filter may be all one needs with the new rushmore ac. I got it at a low cost, it comes with a filter that is close as the k&n filter. You clean it and oil it the same way. It is cotton like the K&N is.
The backing plate is much more open and allows much more air in. It looks like the factory breather.
It could be a over kill, don't have a answer for that.

Looking at the backing plate on the Rushmore a/c makes me wonder why one couldn't drill some strategically placed holes in it,for more air flow.

Since I have both i do not see any reason you can't do it.
Grab a hole saw and go at it. I can take some photos for you if you like.

I'm wondering the same thing, why not just replace the oem with the K&N 1614 they claim the new Rushmore gets 16 or 17% more air, will it be enough? when i traded my 10 ultra in i took the big air sucker off and put the stock back on, now the only thing i did was replace the stock oem filter with a K&N which I'd bought in 10,and drove it for a couple weeks or so waiting for the F/W to come in. and to be honest i couldn't tell the difference, it drove the same, gas mileage was the same, i also had a set of xieds i took off, and i still couldn't tell any difference with the change out. so I'm curious to see what happens with yours. it's still 60 bucks for the K&N for the Rushmore but you might not have to drill out the back. just change out the filter. the front of the Rushmore cover plate is like having ram air as big as it is. I'm looking for data on dyno's for the 2, stock Rushmore and stage 1 upgrade to see how much you gain for the buck.

I got it too but would agree I do like the backing plate of the Fuel Moto Billet Stage 1 A/C Unit and the way the cover fits up and looks. For that reason alone I am glad I got it. I do think the Fuel Moto kit does breath a little better but I was more than fine with the stock air box and the factory replacement K&N filter I had in it.

I just got the outer lid of our 14-15 Rushmore air cleaner powdercoated, today. The oem air filter element that came in it still looks new so I'm kinda thinking about installing everything just the way it is,no K&N element or Fuel Moto Stage 1 backing plate until maybe later.
    What do you guys think?

Probably be fine ... the rushmore air cleaners are pretty hi flow. Might have to adjust tune though.

OK. Just my 2 cents worth. I have had a lot of bikes over the years and spent a LOT of money on mods. The Freewheeler with the Rushmore set up runs great stock. I am not going to spend a lot of money on mods unless I decide to go all out for performance. The bike runs great and the gas mileage is good so why mess with it in my opinion? I understand part of owning a bike is to "make it your own". But, as I said, it runs really well as it is and the MPG is fine.

Clint I think it will be fine, Let me explain why.

I just did an experiment with my Freewheeler. I put the stock air box and filter back on it and ran it for several long rides. The outcome was no real noticeable difference in power by the seat of my pants Dyno between it and the Fuel Moto stage 1 set up with my tune. (Stock with FL-Vied-10 set at the 50% set point and slip on mufflers ) The one thing I did notice though is my gas mileage went up with the stock air cleaner set up and I liked that, about 1 to 1 1/2 miles per gal increase on average . That tells me with my tune the extra air is not really helping me and the factory air box is right on the money for my set up. In my opinion the stock Rushmore air Box is the best one Harley has produced for the Twin Cams to date.

So for now I am going to leave it that way. I will keep the Fuel Moto set for now just in case I do more to the engine and may need it. Or I may sell for a cut price if someone wants it..

I will miss the Fuel Moto backing plate though, it is pretty cool.

    Ride Safe,
    Bill G

I would agree over all with you 100% Sunman.

I do think the Nightrider Fl-Vied-10 units improved and cooled things a little. I did exsperament with the air cleaner and found no real big benefit to the stock set up with the stock 103 motor as I just stated in another posting. Other than that the Slip On Mufflers sound nice on my Freewheeler and it runs great just as you stated. I plan on leaving it alone now.

I will state again the Nightrider FL-Vied-10 units are nice and in some ways a must but not necessary, stock is fine. But for the $120.00 they cost the throttle improvement and cooling to the 103 is worth it.

    Ride safe,
    Bill G

Through Jesus Christ, I a sinner am saved. Not by my doing but through his doing by his sacrifice and Blood Shed on the Cross. His gift to all mankind that will only believe and accept him by Faith. Through his Death and Resurrection I am Saved by Grace and someday I will be with our Lord in Heaven forever.
