Started taking SS at 65. Now I work volunteer at the local hospital 10 to 15 hours a week. Keeping active and riding in the wind keeps me alive.

Unfortunately, my wife died some years ago, but I have grand-daughters that love to ride. I take them on short road trips several times a year.
Sorry to hear about your wife. But glad that you have kids that love to ride with you. Both my daughters love to ride too, and I can relate. My youngest daughter is a boatload of fun to ride with. When a song she likes comes across the stereo she dances. It's hilarious to watch the reaction of people next to us at red lights.

For a while I did custom fabing but it got cloes to getting out of hand. So I only do it for folks that I know or some on the forums. Whey they say it cant be done, that puts me in a mode to figure it out. I usually succeed. Got to go pack, taking a good ride.
I'll post some photos and maybe a viedo.
Well, gosh--I'm gonna have to think of SOMETHING for you to fabricate now. We'll have to work out logistics of how to get whatever it is you make from Alabama to Kentucky.

I only do things you can't buy. That is why I call it custom made.
I am really good at mounts of any kind. Foot pegs to floor boards, tourpak mounts-I did a lot of them for a while, light mounts.
I don't mess with frames, for it's a lot of enjoyments. I made several cruise pegs for the victory cross country. Theirs bolt to the flat engine guard.
I am going to make a new backrest bar for our freewheeler this winter. It sits too far forward for my wife to have good room. I am going to raise it 4 inches and back 2 inches. It will be a separate bar and then have it powder coated. No chromers around my area any more.

The last place that chromed stuff around here closed down about 20 years ago. Everything has to be 'sent off' now. No idea where that is, but it sounds expensive.

BTW, where is it you're going on your ride?

    DD,

Saw in another thread where you did a tank lift. You say it helped...how so? Trying to decide whether to go with this or not. Also, did you do the deluxe option?

Wasn't me on the tank lift, not decided yet but I did the' comfort lift. It helped a lot.
We are in Cherokee,NC at the moment. Leaving for the Cherokee nation resveration in OK. We are going all the way, low on funds. We will ride with them, cherokee Indians, to swaanne , tn then head back home. I usually do 10 days for the trip total.
The Trail of Tears ride is the 20th of next month so I'm hoping my funds will be better. I will ride back to Cherokee, NC and ride in with them to Bridgeport, AL at least. Some sprinkles is all we ran into so far. I got a unbeliveable 38.6 mpg coming up on the goldwing roadsmith.

Might have been one of Kevin's posts. His DKCustoms line carries the tank lift kit and he speaks pretty highly of it on his '14 TG.

This is an older thread, but may have the info you're looking for:

I actually saw a post in some thread where dirtdobber said he put a tank lift on his bike. I'm assuming that it was a DK kit.

I'm wanting some personal feedback from him as to how he has liked it, and if it's made any difference that he can tell, as far as how much heat it helps dissipate.

If it ain't much difference, I don't want to waste $50+ on it. Even if it does help a lot, I may wait until spring as heat soon won't be an issue anyhow.

And of course now I see this...DUH...gotta learn to read back a little further.

Have fun and be careful. Report in when you can. I'll live vicariously through you. Post pics if you can.

BTW, I've been in Cherokee many times. Nice little town. Anytime we stay in Pigeon Forge we drive through the park into town. Only problem is, the way our vacations run (early April or mid September), most of the junk shops are closed down, so we don't see much.

Scott, there are several threads by riders who have installed the tank lift kit. Don't think I've seen anything specific to the '15 TG, but still give you their reaction to the mod.

Here's how Kevin describes the impact:

The tank lift moves air across the cylinders, front to back while moving. They also lift the tank off the top of the engine. If you look at how the tank sits now, it is literally trapping heat around the engine by hanging over the sides of it.

Another benefit of the tank lift is less air coming over the top of the tank, hitting your chest and then traveling up to cause buffeting.

Hell no. I haven't earned an honest buck in 10 years, least ways not working for the man. Do volunteer work at a local hospital and get a free lunch out of it. Gets me off my butt and out of sight from the local Smokey and his radar.

At my age, 3 to 4 hours sleep is fine. Went to bed at 10pm. Woke up at 12:30. Back to sleep. Woke at 1:10. Back to sleep. Woke up at 2:10. Got up, fixed my morning brew, turned on the overnight news, got on the internet, and the rest is history.

Evening late nighters/early risers. Been riding since 3am. Just stopped for breakfast. Needed an early start. 400 miles for work and I have to hit ground running at an emergency.

The main thing that has my attention for the tank lift is it make it much easier to clean the top chrome. It's a pita to do like they come.
I had to use some spacers under the back part of the tank for some wiring I did, it raised the rear of the tank about 1/2 inch but I noticed it altered the sensor angle for the fuel gauge. I lost about 10 miles worth of fuel because of it. Which gave me 10 miles less riding. I made some changes and so I could lower it back. What I am saying is It may be possible to keep it unchanged if front and rear are raised the same.
I have no idea what would happen by just raising the front only.
I'll post some photos some later, maybe tonight. I am home for tonight only, taking off again in the morning. Not sure if I will come home Tuesday or Friday. Depends on what happens I guess. Then taking off again, Sept, 19th for another trip.

A few photos of the ride. We don't put much emphasis on the bikes so much, we prefer scenery with some for bikes.
This was weird but a cool factory, no workers so

Clouds has always amazed me ever since I can remember, well I got lucky

Can't forget about the flag pole I made, It took it with ease most speeds with the 5'8' flag on it was around 60-65mph, a couple of 90mph bursts, and one close to triple digits.
452 miles of it being used, not a bend in it. Still straight.

I guess the R&D is finished. LOL
We lost our first flag early on, Only 80+- miles. I looked back and it was gone, hidden from my mirror, I told my wife to check the glag and she turned around to get it quick. As she grabbed it the last ring broke so the flag was free from bondage. Again LOL
The eyelets let go and the flag ripped.
Got a new one on it took it much better but the ends are split and shredded.
Got to get a good one made. Got another year before our next adventure with our Native Cherokee Indian friends. We will be on the Harley freewheeler Tomorrow.

    Wow! Nice pics!

Looks like in the first pic that she's standing on the seat, it's from so high up. I like clouds too. Very pretty patterns. Thanks for posting!

Flag poles and flags are always temperamental on any kind of vehicle. You're lucky it made it as far as it did.

I was bored and my wife wanted a flag pole for the trike. I took scraps and made her one. 3/4 inch conduit, 12 inch steel road 2 thousands press fit in the end. Tapered to fit just inside of the trailer hitch ball hole. Welded the bottom together than a double around the top where the conduit and hitch were welded em all together. Took 3/4 inch oak dowels filled the captivity then on top I put another solid steel rod press fit to jam them all together. Drilled for the flag. I have made several for folks for low speed and one riding speed. He is still using his. I made it 5 years ago. I beefed this one up a shade.
The photos were taken with the ION action camera/video I got a few years back but never used it. She was holding it in her hand.
She's a real ham when it comes to sunsets, clouds, tree lines etc.. right at dark.
You would not believe where I have to stop at for her to take photos.

Well, I like what you do when you're bored. One time when you're bored, make something random for me. Anything you want. I don't care. Maybe I can talk my wife into letting my come to you to pick it up one weekend.

    What year is your triglide?
I'll have to think for something.
