Fuel mileage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful riding day so i was out riding my new trike (just over 200 miles on it today)<br /><br />
The last time i got fuel i thought to myself , it sure doesn't seem it has been long ago i filled this trike. So when i filled it i set the trip meter just before i left the gas station. <br /><br />
Today my fuel light came on at 76 miles. HUMMMMMMM --by the time i got to a fuel station i had 81 miles on the clock. It took exactly 4 gallons to to it off = 20 miles per gallon !!!!!!!!!<br /><br />
Please tell me that when it gets broke in i will get more---say 25 at least ?<br /><br />

Hubby's VTX 1800 was a real pig on gas when it was new and it did mellow out when it was broke in. <br />
Sorry can't help with the exact numbers but I'm sure someone else can.<br />
So other than the fuel shock, did you have a good ride?

That does seem low, it seems the average for the Honda 1500 and 1800 is around 32 or better. What is the engine size on your trike?

It's an 1800F triked with a Champion trike

Checked with hubby via text message , he says he figures he gets between 25 and 30 miles per gallon now (gets complicated, we measure in liters and our gallons are a different size<img src="images/smilies/confused.gif" border="0" alt="" title="huh??" class="inlineimg" /> but that's what he works it out to). Should add his is not a trike but has a sidecar mounted on. I figure the fuel hit would be similar.<br />
Glad you're enjoying the spring riding. Sometimes those nowhere rides are the best. Hubby is amazing at finding these beautiful winding roads that don't go anywhere in particular.

My fuel mileage since triking the Wing is averaging 41 mpg. Last tank was 42.5
2006 GL1800 with Champion CRT suspension.

It will get better. Break in is somewhere between 4-8000 miles. Since I put the kit on my miles has gone from 38MPG to 28MPG. Don't think mine will get any better but betting yours will. I believe you have a 4.something tank. Mine is 5gal. Light comes on at about 92 miles and got to 107 when I finally fueled up and it took 4.1 gal.

Besides, that's enough riding at any one point with our "AILMENTS"

Gotta stretch those bones and joints.

I know that stretching thing is right---we do winters in the rio grande valley in tx , and is not difficult to ride well over a hundred miles between fuel stations down there.

I have an 08 GL1800 with a CSC kit. My mileage has varied from as low as 26 MPG to a high of 39 MPG. It gets dramatically worse when I get above 60 to 65 miles per hour. My average is between 33 and 34 MPG.

Just did a 300 mile week end at average 72 mph, so obviously on Los Angeles f'ways there were long long stretches of 80 mph. Averaged 35 mpg 2-up on an '03 GL1800 with a CSC kit with aux tank (so have a range of abt 280 miles prudently). Pit 'n potty stops well before that!

If I stay on back roads in the 45 50 MPH range and stay in 5th as much as possible . ( 1500 wing can go down to 25 -30 in 5th with no problem. ) I will get 38 MPH . On the way home on a trip staying on High ways 80% pulling a trailer 2 up. doing 75 MPH I only got 28MPG.

Thx-------------i sent my seats out to get gel put in them ---to cold to ride this week plus i had a trip to make to Alabama (thats where i am now.)
I sent the seats to my last trike out to have repadded and they were great.
Going to have to do something different for the wifes seat tho---she says not as comfy as the Leman was and the foot pegs for her are too high and not forward enough--------

Wish I had known sooner. The seat that is great for the VTx is the Ultimate. Made in Canada. Passengers seat is great. At least a third wider and softer than stock.

As for the passenger pegs...........we used Cycleistic drop down pegs. Puts them lower and more forward. Check them out on the site. I have a set I can't use anymore and will sell very reasonable. I can take some pics if you would like. They are definitely "used". Could be buffed out some to shine.
