Trailer

I am thinking about getting a trailer to haul my trike to go south for the winter.
Does anybody have any experience with any of the trailer sales on Ebay??
GOOD, BAD OR UGLY, any comments would be appreciated.
I know 7 X 12 is large enough, but I am thinking 7 X 14, so I could haul a small car.

No matter what size you think you need get one size larger. It will save you some money in the long run. For me to haul a small car on a trailer it needs to be a tandum with brakes. But thats how I see it. I hauled a small Honda with no brakes on the trailer, not again.

I will agree with what dirtdobber said. If you have too much weight and no brakes, you get the tail wagging the dog. Plus, you are relying on the tow vehicles brakes to stop more weight than it was designed to .

Good luck. I myself would like to have a 6 x 12 to take my trike to the dealer for service. It's 40 miles to one dealer and 60 to the other. Then I wouldn't have to get someone to follow me down and then back to pick it up.

Check out Freedom Trailers website, I've had four of their trailers and never had a problem with any of them, great service and quick delivery. ( this is my personal experience with the company, I don't work for or get compensated by them) Even if you decide to go with a 6 x 12 I would get a tandem axel with brakes, but like everybody else said get at least a size bigger than you need, you won't be sorry.

Just went through this my self. Had a 6'6"X10' landscape trailer for my Spyder. It just fit. Decided it was time for a "motorcycle" trailer. Shopped for trailers, steel and aluminum. One dealer had both in stock of a particular make. One with brakes, one without. The aluminum was $1000 more than the steel. Another $300 for brakes. I talked to the owner as well as a salesman. Asked the owner for his honest opinion. His reply, "I own an aluminum one. And I wouldn't own a trailer with out brakes". The aluminum is 400 lbs. lighter also. Wife and I decided on a 7'X12', single axle, enclosed aluminum trailer with brakes. It has a fold down gate with a transitional flap. Tom

PS: we also talked about "Georgia" made trailers. The ones on e-bay that are way cheaper than anyone else. He was the one that brought it up. There is a reason they are inexpensive. He had one on his lot. He uses it for storage, and to show people.

We have a 7X14 tandem w/brakes. Our 08 GL1800 Motortrike fits easily and room for extras. I could fit the cycle trailer in there last year, but I added a extra foot on to the tongue and a basket for a cooler now it won't. As I type tonight, it is full of my daughters stuff for collage. A tandem will give you less bounce and sway.

Tandem wheels, radial tires, electric brakes, good pulling truck to get you over those hills going South, good electronic brake controller, and V front end to sheer the wind. 7X12 V nose for a Hannigan GL1800, but a 14, if you plan on taking more goodies, like a trailer.
Bought mine from Bruce, Freedom Trailer, never looked back, he needed a larger one.
