Lanny the difference is that the one with a relay isolates the trailer from the bike wiring. 12 volts is fed to the relays and the bikes wiring is used to activate each relay as needed. The output of each relay is usually fused to protect them incase a wire shorts to ground. Don't see that issue often but it happens. A few $$$ is worth the insurance to me..

I don't know how Lehman conversion picks up their lights connection but I'd bet they use the OEM wiring some how. Some installers got lazy and didn't get the connectors you need where you can get to them. Hopefully they at least got them up under the seat. If you don't know how to get that off give me a holler... ( goldrush06@suddenlink.net ) ....

Thanks for the reply
After going back out and rereading this instructions I got it figure out. Now trying to find out how long it will take for the plug and play kit to the run down the battery if I hook it up to the straight to the battery. Don't really know were I could find a hot wire when the witch is on and how many amp it will pull. the Red wire has on it that it will run the battery down and the fuse that came with it is 20 amp.

Lanny I really think that plug and play is dormant until it receives a signal from the bike wiring to pass the battery power on to a particular light. Unless Kuryakyn has done something unusual, everything is controlled by relays that are activated by the bike OEM wiring... I guess if a relay hung in the activated mode that light circuit would remain active and run the battery down.....
