i to am looking into buying a tri-glide

the wife and i just had an accident Jan 12 ,10 and would like to get back into riding again but don't think she can get back on a two wheeler again . we rode a 05 harley ultra classic and it was totaled and she was hurt pretty bad but riding was one of our most favorite thing to do. i demoed one just recently and man what a difference in steering , and does feel like it moves around alot from road condition that would take some getting used to i,m kinda of concerned i wont like it for they are alot of money after reading some the comments it sounds like it could be alot of fun the other concern is most of our rides was with a group of people and i was usually the road captain not sure how well it will go by being in front also concerned about wheel wobble it seems we would have to make alot of changes to adjust, can someone sort of convince me on these bikes for my wife seems to think it would be fine and you know we need to give our wifes what they like

Welcome to trike talk! Sorry to hear about your accident!

I went from a two wheeler to a tri-glide. I was apprehensive the first few times I rode on two lane country roads. It is the crown in the road that makes it feel funny. I got over that fast though and the tri glide is very easy to steer and handle. If I can do it, anyone can. I am a small lady that had the bajeebers scared out of me on two wheels. I love my trike and am so glad I can get out there and ride and enjoy myself again.

You are right it is a adjustment... it will usually take about 500 miles to feel real good on the trike.. And then U would have no problem being Road Captain again. Also every trike kit rides and feels different.. Harley does make a good trike and they have a couple of different models that U might look at..
We did the same thing got rid of the 2 wheeler and 9 months later got the 3 wheeler. What a difference and we love it, both of us.. But unless Cathy is not here the trike does not leave without her...

Hey wriddle. I have a FatBoy/Champion kit and I love it! With the EZ steer (very important to make the steering smooth and comfortable!!!!) it didn't take long at all to change myself over to a trike after almost 20 years on two wheels. The change from LEANING to STEERING felt very strange at first, but within a couple hundred miles of road time, I suddenly realized it felt natural and comfortable. And you will LOVE the stability! No need to put your feet down, no worries on gravel or wet roads, and once you are used to it and familiar with it you'll be leading your group without a problem. Well, you might have one problem......... you'll have to slow down in the twisties to let them catch up to you!!! LOL!!!

Others have mentioned the adjustment period, having no problem as road captain, etc. If you are concerned about cost, you might consider a used trike. We go our GL1500SE MotorTrike for around $16,000, about half or less than a comarably equipped new trike. If you don't mind getting away from the bike style, I have even seen VW trikes in great shape for less than $10,000, but these are very different from motorcycle based conversions. No less cool or fun, just different.

You also should look into other makes of trikes. CSC and Roadsmith make trike kits that have a longer wheelbase than the Triglide. About 13" to 14" longer. Tom

thanks for the info and believe you convinced me getting excited and can hardly wait to get one hopefully in about 4-5 months thanks again now can anyone tell me about how many miles a person can get on the rear tires

I have 43,000 on mine . I am looking into new ones but not in a real hurry, they are not bald or anything like that , front tire is the one that wears the most, I have 20,00 on my front now

wriddle. Welcome aboard. Glad you are able to consider getting back on the horse. I see you had a HD. If you are a HD gut and want to stay with it then your choice is to buy from HD or get a HD conversion. am a HD guy and I built mine from a 07 Police Road King into the trike I have now. Looks like a Road Glide with a Champion conversion. I have almost 50 years of riding under my belt and love the trike. I do not hesitate to get out front as if I want I can make it difficult for the 2 wheelers to keep up.

If you are not tied to HD then there are several other makes out there and they all make good trikes. So look around.

We have a saying here "Gee what took me so long to get on 3 wheels"
