    Question State Farm

How come I see ads and posts with people that have State Farm, and my buddy and myself are told State Farm cannot insure us with VW trikes.

Most insurance is regulated through individual states. Check with bikers in your state to make sure any are using State Farm.

State Farm lost a lot of business in our state, when they changed their home owners insurance a couple of years ago. I had been a customer for 40 years and I changed immediately.

I have State Farm for my VW trike, some how its an addendum to the home owners policy. But I am in California and that may make a difference.

Everything I own is insured with State Farm (Tennessee).....They insure VW Trikes here. There are several in Lynchburg that have insurance at my same Agent. Yep, Insurance is regulated by State Insurance Boards, and varies a lot State to State.....

Frankentrike's reference to the underwriters is probably the issue, and they may have different underwriters for different areas. I had a similar issue with another product (not a motorcycle of any sort) where my State Farm agent told me that they don't normally insure that product, but would submit it to the underwriters. After a few days, the underwriters approved it based on all the other different policies I have with them.

I'm sure this is a dumb question but, who told you State Farm cannot insure VW Trikes?
Was it a State Farm Agent or just "They said"?

my Rewaco could not be insured by many here in oregon since lic as a m/c, most said they do motorcycles but because it has an automotive engine, no luck. So checked with Geico and got more coverage than any other insurance co., for half the cost

There are differences in rates between companies but usually slight. If Champsman97045 got a huge decrease either he was paying to much to start with or his coverage is less than other insurers.Other factors are also considered. Drivers age, other vehicles insured, tickets etc.<br />
Remember that one gets what they pay for.

My Agent in Aiken SC told me that State Farm has changed their policy on insuring custom/home-built trikes and bikes. They will not insure them. Manufactured yes but not if you built it yourself. This was last summer. Geico will and they are way cheaper than Progressive.

I've been with 'em since the 60s and couldn't agree more. That said, I've lived all over the country and it's all in the agent!

No matter what I do or what happens, he has to be on my side. I've only one that cared more about himself and the company. I demanded (and got) another agent I was satisfied with.
I know what you mean about the "money back" too. They have insured many homes, cars and motorcycles for me over the years. Right now they have my 2 trucks, 3 cars, 2 motorcycles, 2 homes, my excess liability umbrella and momma's life insurance policy.

Hmmm, then I guess they wouldn't insure Suzuki C90 Boulevard two wheelers either. Those bikes are manufacturer designed/built with the gas tank under the driver's seat.

i live in phoenix, arizona and my last Trike was insured with state farm too. They listed it in my multi vehicle policy as a "street legal recreation vehicle", and it was really, really cheap.

I have had state farm for 30 years for all my coverage. I just got my bike triked within the last month. I also live in Indiana. State farm insured my trike with no problems so far. They said first that the trike conversion had to have been done by a pro and not by myself. They also said that my trike insurance was based on the bikes vin no. To get covered for the addition of the trike kit I had to take the bill from the conversion to them so they could make a copy and they had to take pictures of the finished product for the records too. State farm said my cost per month would not change from what I was paying before the conversion even if my bike went from a $7000 to $20000 item. If you went to state farm as a new customer and had a trike I dont know if they still went by the vin no. or not.

I was very exact with the questions about the coverage change dealing with the trike so there would be no miss understanding.

I have State Farm here in Tennessee on my trike. They will NOT medically insure your passenger but the passenger still comes under liability. Don't ask me to explain because I can't figure it out. All State does insure the passenger but they were a bit higher, and since my boat and vehicles are with State Farm I stayed with them to get the multiple vehicle discount.
