    Default need help with 2012 model 72 sportster

    I got my wife a 2012 model 72 sportster with a cass county choppers trike kit already install,it had only 150miles (from killer Creek Harley in Ga.)got some small problem tire shack on back roads in north Ga.no rake, and need Kickback Risers Wife is only 4ft10"

    Are you thinking of a rake kit to. A 4.5 degree will make it steer like power steering and cut out a lot of the slow moving jerking on the bars.
    First, if you haven't already, is a reduced reach seat. I have one on our flrt helps me a lot.
    Then a 4 inch set of pull back risers. I would look for 1.5 back to 2 inch back risers. Just taller risers will help some. The triple tree is on a angle so you will gain a little.

    A rake kit on the front will make a significant difference. I put a Champion trike kit on my wife's 1200 Custom, and at first rode it without a rake kit... a real handful to control. Installed a 5 degree rake kit... tracks like it's on rails and feels like power steering. Just getting ready to install another trike kit on my own bike, and a rake kit will be part of the installation.

    Some pullback risers should help the reach situation, and you shouldn't have to mess with any wiring extensions or longer brake lines, the 72's have pretty tall bars as is.

    Default Are you still happy with your Cass County kit

    I pulled the trigger and ordered my cass county trike kit with trees last month. Still waiting for it to ship. Sure takes a long time but I am hoping it is comfortable and looks good. I have heard of some others say some parts have rusted. Are you seeing anything like that?

    Here is something to help, It's not the cure ( the raked triple tree is the cure) but try it? It does make a difference.

    You haven't said what type of front end is on it? Is it a chopped trike?

    even with a raked tree some trikes will have a tendency to shake a little?
    especially at slow speeds.

    If you add a steering damper it may help but be aware you have to overcome it during a turn also, no biggy just be aware ok?

    First off, don't lug it!

    keep it in a gear where the engine is always pulling, in this way you will reduce its tendency to shake and if it does a little throttle or backing off will bring it out of it.

    Run your front tire at max. inflation. You may sacrifice some wear for control. To hell with it, wear it out as fast as you can and get rid of it!
    wind can even cause a side flex problem.


    trikes don't lean so you don't need the side flex a two wheeler does.

    Allot of us, myself included will buy a REAR tire the EXACT same size as the front tire and mount it BACKWARD rotation.

    ( As soon as I say the above there will be some know it all to tell you not too, Ignore it! I pay no attention for the same reason I don't eat out of the toilet?)

    The rear tire is made of a much harder rubber compound so it naturally doesn't have as much side flex. It also gets fantastic mileage.


    There is a natural learning curve when first riding a trike and you will get used to it after a while.

    Your wife is height challenged? Mines a munchkin!

    When cornering learn to shift her bum on the seat to give her a more solid footing on the peg and hug the tank with the other knee, makes cornering easier.

    A trike is an exercise in push pull, Ladies often lack upper body strength, the way to overcome allot of this is to lock the elbow she is pushing with. Less fatigue= more turning power because she is using her shoulder and upper body to compensate for arm strength.

    This is damn good idea for us guys also especially if your not as young as you once were.

    I run 36 psi front, 22 rears.Frankenstein kit I installed on 1200L. Raked trees will make steering easier,I ran mine a bit before switching just to feel the difference. I can understand your wife not being comfy. You have the 72 with forward controls and mini apes, if it's oem My wife is 5' and would have the same problem. I have searched for a rear tire to replace my front when the time comes,no luck,probably gonna have the same problem with your 21''.

    With a 21 inch front tire you are really limited on a selection. Get a soft tire thar grips really good. Forget good mileage kn it, it is a safety factor. If a curve is hit a tad to fast the fron can slide some. My 19 inch does it when i hit one to fast.

    I temp to load pic,s was unable.We had 19"Tire and wheel install Mid control,s
    On rust we have not had it long.But kit was install in 2013 and they only drove it 150 miles.
    with Cass County I call and e-mail them on what regulator maintained I need to do.I would
    like to know
