OK, I had my trike in the shop because the shifter forks went out. Had to have them replaced. That went OK, expensive, but OK. This trike only has 37000 miles on it. I've had it since new and I do most of my riding in the twisties in the mountains and probably average less than 40MPH overall.
When my mechanic took the trike out for a test drive the rear end started making grinding noises. He took the trike back to the shop and checked the punkin. It was full of ground metal. So... he pulled the rear end and took it to a shop that specializes in rear end work. When the mechanic at the rear end shop finally got the rear end apart and was trying to re-assemble the dang thing with all new parts it wouldn't go back together.
It seems the chopping and welding Motor Trike did to the rear end to make it work with their kit has warped, or twisted, the rear end housing and now the bearings won't go back in. The mechanic says there is no way the rear end could have warped on it's own, especially with only 37K miles.
Now I'm looking for a good rear end for the Motor Trike 2008 version of their kit. It's a fixed axle, not IRS. Anybody have a spare one laying about? Please let me know. I just need the housing because we already have all of the new parts to go back in it.
I'm trying to get ahold of Motor Trike but probably can't until Monday.
