Let me see a picture of a runabout . All i get is a small boat when i google it. also Rupp is a mini bike for a kid. I did once see a RUPP Trike , but it was 125 cc and only could go 45 MPH.
My wife has decided she likes my Runabout and might like a trike of her own. She has never ridden before, other than taking mine around a bit. We have seen a Rupp and a Runabout for sale within a reasonable distance. I have no Rupp experience, but they look like they would be easy to ride and feel like you are more protected. Anyone have any first hand knowledge? Pros or cons for a complete novice rider?
Thanks

The Runabout would be the Trikeshop's (makers of Roadsmith) original VW based trike. The Rupp also usually has a VW engine, and has a tub-like body. Trike Shop made the Runabout until a few years ago, and the longer and sleeker brother the Roadhawk. I don't know when Rupps were last made.
Here is a pic of our former ride, a TS runabout. The darker one is a Rupp Centaur

Looked up RUPP they only made 1,200 a few have been restored for in the neighborhood of $20,000 they have 455 cc motors in them can do 8MPH and were last made in the 70's
Found a little history on the Rupp. Because of the 2 cycle engine that wouldn't hold up and low power, most were converted to VW engines.
Here is the link to the rup story.

Iworked for comet kart sales in the late 60s and early 70s,in greenfield indiana.
They were and still are big in to go carts, the son Mark is the one who raced in the Indy 500 and has a large go cart track just south of new castle .
I do not know if it is the same rupp company but back then they made mini bikes,go carts and snow mobiles.
They were out of Ohio.
The last I heard they went bankrupp and went out of bussines.
In addition to the trike,
Rupp also used to make a great snowmobile but has been out of business years ago!
