adding a CB since the '14 didn't come with one

OK, so the '14 TriGlide didn't come with the CB standard like the earlier ones. Didn't think that I would need one, but now, the group I ride with uses the CB for communication on group rides, and since I am going to be a road captain, now I am looking to add one. I guess that the wiring is already there, how about the antenna cable? I see that the PTT switch is not, though, so can I add just the switch or do I need a complete RH control module? The local HD dealer has the CB module for $355, plus flashing the radio to accept it.

As an alternative, looking at a tank bag and a small aftermarket radio; I can get a complete tuned setup (radio, lighter plug, mic, cable and antenna) at a local CB shop for ~$100. I also know that JM has a bar-mounted setup for around $400.

Looking for experiences and opinions (yeah, everyone has one) on pluses and minuses for each, especially from someone who has done it successfully.

Was in the same situation with my 14 Trike. I opted to purchase the HD Module, misc parts (antenna, threaded stud), right hand control with the push to Talk and have the dealer install it.
I'm told the installation is not that big of an deal, but I didn't have the time to deal with it.
This is a cleaner installation and I don't have stuff hanging from the handlebars or sitting on my tank.

Another way is use a Handheld CB with a Headset and just put it in your pocket.

You can not just add the ptt switch you have to replace the module in the right Handle bar that part was about $120.00. That is added to the cost of the CB unit and the antenna. Everything is pre-wired so it is easy to install. If you install it yourself you still have to go to dealer to have Boom Box programmed for the CB. Much cleaner than other set ups but like anything Harley the cost is much higher.

Handheld CB radios cost $39 on up to over $100. You can match the Headset to the radio starting at $29 or you can use the HD headset you have by matching the mini plug to fit the radio. Bluetooth won't work with a CB, needs to be wired. With a handheld you can belt clip it and run the headset wire up to your helmet and also have it clipped to your jacket or shirt to support the cable. One way to check them out is Search Amazon for different types. They work great and cost is low compared the factory.

The local CB shop I have looked at has both the small Midland radio I can put in a tank bag or a handheld. Either way will cost me about $100, which is way cheaper than the OEM HD radio. For all I will be using it, I can't see spending over $500 to go with the OEM.

No reason to spend a bundle for occasional use.
