Default Patiently awaiting my new TS Custom Seat

Well, hopefully if all goes well my new www.tscustomseats.com seat will be here, After riding for about a month I determined (well I sure hope so) that the old 1989 Original seat was broken down too much and my arse would hurt lol so i throwed out $1100 for a new seat. We talked for days, Tom is a super nice guy and after viewing and actually riding a seat of his for an hour at the Hot Springs rally I promptly sent my seat off last week and should hopefully have it by Friday or Monday at the latest, he keeps teasing me with in progress pics so I am pretty excited and can't wait.

Hope everyone is having a super great week

We had a Diamond custom seat on the GL1500, and we went a few years before we popped for another on the 1800. Got it a few weeks before the 800 mile (one way) trip to Maggie Valley. Every mile reminded us that if you pile on miles a custom seat is not an expense, it is an investment that pays dividends in comfort.

Tom built a seat for us also on a 2001 Goldwing the seat was just getting broken in when I traded it for a new indian roadmaster . I need to see if he can work his magic on it's seat.

I am on my second seat from Tom. The first had about 80K on it and looked like new except where my foot drug over the edge. Magic marker fixed that. Traded the bike and now have around 15K on the second one. Never had to break in either seat just put it on and headed home 350 miles and felt like my recliner the whole way.

The website mentions a trike seat. How is this different than a regular GL1800 seat? How does this guy make "custom" seats? In other words, is the seat specifically designed for each rider/passenger? What info is needed by the builder? I am interested in how the seat improves over the stock seat. I personally think the stock seat on a wing is peachy but hearing someone sat for over 13 hours has me intrigued as that is pretty incredible considering the seat time the rider/passenger had prior. I know these things are possible... I have a 2013 CB1100A and with the stock seat, I could ride perhaps 50 miles before some discomfort started setting in and by 100 miles it was getting painful. The stock seat made my thighs hurt, my tailbone hurt and made me slide down onto the tank. Bought a Corbin which isn't exactly a custom seat as they don't take any info from the customer but the seat is built much more ergonomically and I can not ride for 8 hours easily with no discomfort... The overall ergos of that bike are not desgned for touring so the wrists start aching and the legs get cramped but I could ride across country now where before I couldn't get out of the county. I haven't felt the need for a custom seat on any of my previous wings but we did use a high quality full sheepskin that greatly aided comfort on long rides; just a pain when it rained as you have to put covers on. Noticed that TS seats seemed to have velour on the tops... this can't be waterproof. Why the velour?

Let me try and explain it for you. The trike seat is wider and Tom Told me if you put one on a bike that it would not be possible to reach the ground. Mine is also taller where it steps up to the passenger. This can be normal height. Tom has a backrest he sells that is very similar to a Utopia but is a little larger and will reach down into the seat where the Utopia won't reach with his higher back (customer's choice. My old seat had a Utopia on it this one has his) My seat is fabric from a Lincoln Mark VII also "waterproof" I treat it every six months with Scotch Guard waterproofing spray. My old one was in some gully washers and never held water. Tom has a questionaire on his website like the other seat makers have. I went in personally and he sat both myself and the wife on the trike in riding position and took pictures, notes and ask many questions then built the seat. He uses your seat pan and strips the seat down and uses all new foam.

I hope this has at least answered some of your questions.

That REALLY helps... someone searching for info on this guy's work will now find what they want. I ain't that far from him... couple day ride. May have to look into the seat he builds at some point. You rode in? Did he do the work while you were in the area?

He might do some repair work on one of his seats but if its a build it will take a while so don't be in a hurry, look over his website, give him a call and chat about what you have in mind and the color you want and he will send samples for material, take the photos he asks for noting special requirements IE: Back Rests , height , width, thickness, length to pegs / read his instruction sheet... It took him about a month to complete mine as he does them as he gets them, as many will say you want speed go elsewhere, you want quality Toms you man.... if you get a seat from him its quality... Enjoy!! It will fit you azz.... and you can sit as long as you like.... have had many 1000+ mile days...

If you call Tom one time, you will find out he's a TALKER and the man knows seats, that's for sure. I sent him a dozen photos both in sitting and riding photos, like the before person mentioned there is a list of questions but then he will ask more. He sent both photos and samples of color choices as well as several seats he had done in similar colors. I learned things about my Trike I had no idea that he knew. One thing he looks at the photos is your handlebar height compared to whether your are comfortable or not. Whether you sit forward in the seat, are your knees cramped. I'm 6'1" and part of my pain was from my seat height and my knee position and i had no idea. He is moving me up and back a little in the seat. We could go on and on about the questions he sneaks out of you or sees in a photo. He also knows a ton about bikes period and is super easy to talk to. I had originally planned to not have my seat til next weekend. He had a lil wreck last week and was a little sore so I agreed to give him a break and said dont worry about my seat as I was gonna be out of town the next 2 weekends. Well things changed so I called today to see how he was doing and he said actually I am finishing your seat and guess what I have a friend that is going to personally deliver your seat to you tomorrow. His friend was headed to Dallas and agreed to drop my seat off. I am very excited and may not actually sleep tonight lol Thats customer service right there. If Tom is higher than any of the mass produced seats I do not know but i can tell you I would rather pay a little more and have input on the seat and support an individual vs buying one from a mass producing company, so many things go into making an individual item that a mass produced seat cant do. Not everyone in this world is the same height, weight , leg length, butt width etc lol

and last but not least I can speak to the owner or person making the products

Tom personally brought me my seat Friday afternoon. What a super guy. We took off Saturday morning and Tom says make sure and break it in for about 100 miles. Well we got broke it in for about 350 by night fall Saturday and then another 250 today. We just got home after having an altenator go out 2.5 hours from the house and calling my nephew to bring a trailer, We were between Talahina and Mena Arkansas in some of the prettiest country. It wasnt a bad 3 hour wait and our view was spectaculor, We just home so I will post a few pics in the next day or two.

oh yeah, WOW, Best way to describe it is it sits better than my recliner and I have zero pain at all

Why the velour?
hay George, I am the one that road the tom simmons seat for 13 1/2 hrs. Tom would not start my seat until he got pictures of me and the wife on our trike (2000 gl1500se ) we had a couple of phone conversation. I got the velour and a rain cover, if it get a little wet just use a towel and dry it as much as you can it will dry fast. the wife and I are not young and not old yet ( wife is 72 I am 74 ) now george we don't do 13 hrs just for the fun of it our normal day is 6 or 7 hr. on a trip. if you need any more info pm me I might be able to save you some $$

George I was a little skeptical at first as HOW could someone make a custom seat better than anyone else but this site along with a couple others the people that had custom seats vs mass producing seat companies were eager to explain the differences. I spoke with probably 5 or 6 different folks that had different seats made over the years. I then called 3 different makers and to be honest. Tom asked the questions that I felt contributed to his great work. I was never or have no intention of riding more than 5 or 6 hours a day and at this point thats pushing it. I want to enjoy the scenery. Anyhow, I think after you speak to Tom you will have the same thinking as I did. I can tell you this for sure. Tom suggested breaking in the seat by driving 50 miles while wiggeling around or moving in the seat in the different positions you will normally drive in and then 50 miles back home doing the same. About 2 hours after putting the seat on we took off on a 300 miles ride with some friends. We did the wiggle/move around thing for the first 100 miles or so but never had any pains or aches or uncomfortableness as we did with the stock seat that came on the bike. We rode about 800 miles the first weekend which i know isnt that much for most of these folks on here but thats a push for us as newbies and I was amazed at just how comfortable it was with no discomforts at all. I forgot to mention when we went to the Hot Springs Ralley, there was a couple there at one of the gas stations that had a TS seat and I was telling him I was going to order one I thought and he said heck, lets swap bikes for the balance of the ride that we were all on which was about 100 miles left so we did, It was a awesome ride as he was the same height and weight I was within 5 lbs lol. I loved it so I ordered one, he realized just how much he loved his seat after riding my stock wore out seat too lol

    Hope this helps
