I'm a little ambiguous about thank you's.. I Mean i didn't sign up i was US not RA.
I did what i was told to do and came out alive.. And when I came out guys were still being sent over, Years after i came home...

well I may not wear the cap and may not want to tell them about my experience's ,,, I really didn't want to be there-but I went and did what I was told to do. ,,, I went as I am pro usa no matter what- its our country.
for years we were treated poorly and I dealt with that as best I could,,, in more recent years the resentment for that war has faded and I guess I've eased up on my position also if someone hears that I'm a disabled Vietnam vet and say's "welcome home " I just say "thank you"
I assume its heart felt comment and I respect that... and except it for myself and all who served and may have never got to hear it...

I joined the Air Force in 69. Two weeks from going to Boot Camp I busted my wrist in a touch football game and had to have a bone graft. Nine months and six casts and many wires later the Air Force wouldn't take me.
I was reclassified to 4-F. I drew # 344 in the Draft Lottery.
Evidently it wasn't meant for me to go.

Heres a thought, me medics, 65 to early 69. Drafted but joined USAF instead, wonder how they let me do that ? Was a cross over for Army chopper school in 68, then they tole me thats an extra 37 months extension, as we were to sign the papers, hahah, yeah right. Still no wings.

It's still a bad taste in my mouth about coming home and getting the crap we got! I've had people come up and thank me only because they do it to the guys coming home now, but don't think they mean it!

I never took it personal, Our government gave us the shaft... Manly The 3 stooges. Johnson, Macmera, Westmoreland.. Not the people protesting.. We had no reason to be there, Not one Vietnamese had any intention of ever coming over here and flying planes into buildings, or blowing things up.. And if anyone believed in the Domino Theory, I have a bridge that i own in Brooklyn they can have for half price..

It's the younger generation that puts a smile on my face and tears in my eyes whey they say welcome home then put out their hand. Look at their face, you will know if it is a genuine thank you or not.
The younger generation is why we do the things we do, they are our future.
Teach them, spend time with them, tell em stories-they really like that, but most of all let them see your love for them through your actions. That is my welcome home.
We are the teachers of the future. Welcome home comrades.

Hey All,
I spent my time there and joined the VFW(Veterans F***** by Washington) when I returned. Lost friends and Family but never stopped LOVING the US.
My hand always goes out to those that have VN emblems on regardless if cap,vest,shirt, just want them to know I'm glad they made it home.
Bad times for all who went and hard times for some that made it home.
We can make handicaps but not take care of them, pretty sad for our men and women who I truly wish the best.

THANKS to ALL that have beenin our Nations Service war or not, you all did your tasks that were asked to do. GOD BLESS!!!!!!

Being ignored coming home was just part of the crap we got, now a days I just get po'd about what's going on now in this world, with all the still desperate vets out there and watching all these damn Illegals coming to this country and they might as well be getting Purple Hearts or Silver Stars and have really done nothing for this country other than be promoted above our soldiers that have served thru trials & tribulations of war with no credit given. I say deport them all or enter the correct way, then serve this country to earn your position and a say in our crappy politics.... sure wish I'd have gotten a BUS ride to my front door with all new clothes, some spending money and put up in free accomodations til I got situated.... this world just keeps piling on.!!!!

I just want to say: From Nam to the Present Conflick (war?) Our Government uses us as a tool to fight for their own situations that they cannot solve! When in doubt! Fight it out!! not right but we would be booed if we told them different by ones that think War is always the answer......(ex-VietNam Veteran) just my 2cents.................
