    Default Bars for Freewheeler

OK, did a search for FW handlebars but found very little. After our recent trip to the Hill Country I realize I am going to have to change out the handlebars on my FLRT. I need higher and more pull back. After a few miles I start getting cramps in my neck and shoulder. Has anyone changed their out? What are the specs on the stock FLRT bars?

    Thanks, Sunman

    Default handlebars

I have a freewheeler and I also looked for bars. Found some nice 14 inch ones at the Harley shop. They could get all the parts needed for the exchange except the brake line. The only problem was they wanted $900.00 for just the parts. If I wanted them installed they wanted 4 hours labour. I guess I will look elsewhere. But what I did in the mean time was turn the bars forward to make them parallel with the forks. made a big difference. Put your hands higher, made steering easier

Wow! $900.00 is a bit rich for my blood. Will keep looking. Thanks, Sunman

Sunman.....I had 2 sets of 16" apes come in today, 1 Kromeworks & 1 Burly. determined they will work for me and ordered clutch, brake extension and electrical cables today. May need new heavy duty clamp. 3.5 - 4 hours is about right for labour.
    Bars polished $92, chrome $192
    all cables < $200 total
    clamp, if needed, about $165
    note these are Canadian prices
Appointment to install Oct 27, will update u then
    Doc

PS will be in Texas for the winter by Dec1, maybe we could hook up

Thanks for the reply. Let me know how the install goes and photos too! Labor is not an issue as I would do the install myself. When you get down this way send me a PM; would like to meet up with you somewhere.

Hey Sunman....bars done, very happy. Will take pics in am and try posting them tomorrow with parts list.
Keep in mind, while they are 16" apes, I'm using them to make up for short arms, so they lean back towards me.

12" apes through the local dealer with wire extenders, cluctch and break hydrolic lines, larger extensions and top cap was $600 to 650 installed. This gives you about 2" up and an inch wider. The stock bars are what came on my '03 Dyna. Very comfortable for me

    Why 3 wheels?

because 2 isn't enough and 4 is too many

Thanks Screwball. I have about 5 sets of bars in my garage, take-offs from other bikes. One set would be a perfect set-up for me but isn't for internal wires. Will have to call the Dealer tomorrow to see what the stock FW handlebar specs are and then find some with the rise and pullback that I need.

just got back from a 150 mi ride. what a difference bars make! sitting up straight arms loose, and the extra 2" width really makes steering easier especially in the twisties!

Way back when I put 16s on my Springer. Back then the wires weren't run internally, but wire tied to the bars. When I put 14" on my '03 Dyna I had to lengthen the wires so I left them outside the bars and just put a sleeve over them and wire-tied them to the handle bars. If you stagger the splices on the wires and use shrink wrap insulation it looks pretty good and is one hell of a lot easier than trying to thread the wire through the bars and risers..... just a thought.

Now that I'm old and my circulation is shot I loose feelings in my fingers if I keep my hands above my shoulders too long. Old age is the pits!

I hear that. My Doctor told me old age isn't for wimps.

I have been thinking about just running the wires on the outside. Might give it a try.

Doc.... Thanks for all the info & pics. What quick release windshield are you running there? Does it do the job?

Wow...those bars look great!! I wish I could get bars that had that much pullback on my TG. From the side it looks like you only have to reach about half the distance of your tank.

Consitter.....yes, they are great for someone with a short reach. Have a TG in Texas and am hoping to find something for that.
took 2 months to find them for freewheeler, but we have a great dealer here with awesome staff.
