Insurance Question

I have only three months as a trike owner in talking with others I think I am paying too much for insurance. I have rode bikes for over fifty years and never had an accident or claim. Does anyone know a company to recommend for senior trike riders with no accidents or tickets. Another issue is the valuation of the trike. I hear many complaints I'm looking for someone who is pleased with their coverage and would recommend it to others.

Keep in mind, Insurance varies so much from state to state. My satisfaction with Progressive for instance, maybe very different from a person in another state where Progressive or any other insurance company has different rules and regulations that they have to operate under.

I use GEICO as insurance provider. They don't see the trike as a add on problem. They insure the trike as a trike. State Farm insures the trike as a motorcycle with a very expensive add on. Had a very bad experience with them. Won't happen again. goldwingagain

I have Allstate in Florida. Insured as 2 wheeler with accessories. $378.00 per year.

I have Foremost & when I changed from two wheels to three wheels my insurance only went up $15 a year...

Progressive here in Texas, they were best for us.... covered as the bike plus accessories..... just add some extra in case.... cheep about 250.00

You might want to check and see if they cover your passenger also, some don't.

Nubie, finding out what folks pay for insurance in states not your own and without knowing what they are covered for and their deductibles is almost USELESS. Let's see what the declaration page looks like for folks who are paying the lowest premiums.

You have to go over your declaration page with someone who knows the trade offs between cost and potential benefit in the event you are in an accident. You also have to find out how the potential insurer will treat you if you have a claim. Hike rates? Drop you if it is your fault?

My trike premium is about $600 and I have LOW deductibles ($250) and really believe unisured/underinsured with high limits is a great idea; I pay almost $200 of my premium for this coverage. I also valued my accessories and trike kit with install at about $16K. If the trike is totaled, I have wiggle room to get any other conversion I choose.

I could potentially insure my trike for $70 a year if I only had minimum required by law which is:

• $30,000 for each injured person.
• $60,000 for injuries per incident.
• $25,000 for property damage.

Found this online:Uninsured/Underinsured drivers – The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) states that about 20% of current drivers in TX are uninsured. This coverage can help protect you from damages caused by these drivers.

Again, talk to a knowledgeable agent you trust to help you decide on the trades offs... costs vs cover. You don't need insurance until you need it. When looking at moving to another company, use your current declaration page to do an apple to apple comparison!
