Memphis Shades Part Issue

I have a 2007 Lehman Jackal (Suzuki C90) trike with a Memphis Shades windshield. I'm at 13.5K road miles and my lower anchor plate (the one that bolts on to the lower triple tree) broke...again. The left side tab fractured along the bend. This is the second time this has happened.

Memphis Shades replaced the first one for free (through the trike dealer) and they are doing the same for the second one (directly through me). No quibbling, no hassle. I told them what happened, they said OK, asked for my mailing address and said they were sending one out. Didn't even ask any questions to see if it was still under warranty (it's past the two-year mark). It was almost like they do this on a regular basis. I asked if there was some sort of factory defect with this part but the customer service rep said none that she was aware of.

I don't like looking gift horses in the mouth, but this was almost too easy. I may have stumbled on the best customer service function the world has ever known.

In the past I have needed some hardware from them. Not once did they ever ask me to pay for it. They only ask that I donate to their chairty of which they have no way of knowing if I did or not. They are a wonderful company who just do the right things.

No "kicks" here. One of my bolts "worked loose" and I stopped by the local store (Chopper Toyz, Morehead City, NC) who supplied the Memphis Shade and asked for a replacement. Got it for free with no questions asked. In fact, Neon even gave me a "back up".

Ive been a Memphis Shades dealer for 4 years and I have never had better service out of any supplier I use. I could not recommend a better windshield company period. BTW, I haven't seen the problem you're talking about come up...not sure why that's happening Yogi.

Yeah, I'm wondering about what's causing the fracturing also. Once, well, things happen. However, twice on two different plates over a short period of time (around 18 months) is a bit unusual. Someting like that gets you wondering if there's some sort of defect in the manufacturing or installation process.

If it was a manufacturing defect there should be more than one person experiencing it and I haven't seen this issue pop up on any of the m/c boards that I frequent.

The installation process isn't rocket science and I'm a pretty good wrench. Besides, the first installation was done by the dealer. I did the second. Both of us making the same mistake? Doubtful, unless there is a special installation process with critical steps involved. Four bolts? How critical can that be?

I suspect it may have to do with some sort of lateral vibration in that particular area of the forks by the windshield that's causing it.

Why it isn't showing up anywhere else doesn't support that theory.

I'm thinking of taking one of the broken plates out to a welding shop and have them weld the tab back in place and then add a corner piece to the top of each tab. If the third plate breaks then I'll give the re-enforced one a try.

a few years ago, i had a memphis shades windshield that was color gradiant.(it got darker closer to the bottom) after about a year, i started noticing a sort of "bubble" look in the darker areas. appeared to be inside the laminate. called memphis shades. the customer service lady asked what i had been using as a cleaner. i told them all i ever used was NOVUS polish. she told me that's what they recommend. anyway, she asked for the number and style of the windshield, and said they would send me a replacement. when i asked about return of the original, she told me not to worry about returning it. but, don't you want to see the shield for proof? and then, to my surprise, and totally something businesses don't do anymore, the customer service lady said, "WE TRUST YOU".

what a CLASS ACT. i am, and will always be, a loyal memphis shades customer.:yes:

HINT: Leave all of the mounting bolts loose until You mount the Windshield itself. Mount it solid, then tighten all of the Mounting bracket bolts.....sometimes the windshield "tweaks" everything else when You mount it. I did this on a Friend's Aero a coupla' years ago after it also havin' this issue twice....no problems since....

HINT: Leave all of the mounting bolts loose until You mount the Windshield itself. Mount it solid, then tighten all of the Mounting bracket bolts.....sometimes the windshield "tweaks" everything else when You mount it. That's pretty much what the installation instructions said. I don't remember if I did it that way the first time I replaced the bracket but I did do it this time. We'll see what happens. :yes:
