    Default Rear trunk leaking

We had our 2013 Wing convert in June. We rode it right to Roadsmith and had them do the conversion.

On two occasions when we've washed the Wing....there has been water that had leaked into the rear trunk. Does/has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Thanks.

Hey Denny!! Welcome to TT!!! I wish I had a cure for you. The way that seal fits I don't see any adjusting it like the Motor Trike I use to own. I'd give Taylor a call and see if they have a fix. If so, please post it.

Just out of curiosity, do you spray water on that joint when washing? I never spray water anywhere on the trike. Just use a bucket and rags. I've not had any leakage yet. I guess I'd have to ride in the rain or use a hose to wash. Don't do either...

    Denny,

Depends on which kit you had installed: for 2013 Wing - HT or HTS 1800 : http://trikeshop.com/media/docs/ht-h...structions.pdf This is the full installation manual which you should have received from your installer.

This is the verbage which is found at the tail end of the manual :
Warning: check the function of the trunk release mechanism repeatedly and adjust ifneeded with the trunk door open BEFORE shutting the trunk door!
    d. Note: fine tuning of the door gap and closing pressure can be adjusted bymoving the pin on the door, and/or the latch mechanisme. After adjusting ALWAYS verify the latch operation before you close thedoor!

This is the owner manual for either : http://www.trikeshop.com/media/docs/...-and-later.pdf

And this is a link to all this Downloadable information that is available on Roadsmiths website: http://www.trikeshop.com/trikes/hts1800/

Just FYI always check the website or call Taylor at Roadsmith.... he's full of it, information also!!

Mine leaks after riding in rain all day. Too many penetrations for wires and that fine, high pressure spray from the road will finally work its way in. But, the seal doesn't leak. Put some baby powder on the seal and close the trunk. Then open and see where powder transferred - or not.

Like a previous poster said, never wash with a hard spray. It can get into places not normally accessible by rain.

They do have a extra seal to help stop water from getting in.I was told to not install it unless I needed it.I don't know why I was told not to install it unless needed. My brother has a CSC and his leaks.I would think it would be hard to keep them from leaking

If your changing the door seal make sure its for the brand & model you have, one size does not fit all....

Why not do the same thing, that was done to the rubber seal on the trunk gasket to keep the trunk lid from rubbing the paint on the trunk box...and that was to slide 3/8 OD plastic tubing inside the rubber gasket...I think that could be done to the RS gasket to make a better seal...

    Default Trunk Leak

Our 2012 CSC conversion had the same problem. Follow the cable down from the top tour pak, lower trunk release cable, to where in enters the top of the trunk compartment. I found the sealant around the cable did not completely seal the penetration. Added a healthy dose of silicone to this area and it hasn't leaked since.

    Default Trunk Leak

I have a Champion kit on my Wing. In a hard rain I would get a leak once in a while. I could adjust the hinges to make the door close tighter. If you leave the trunk closed when not riding the gasket will get a memory and stay flat. I went to the pet store and bought 8 feet of the air hose for the fish tanks. I pulled the gasket off ran a snake through the gasket, greased the hose and pulled it through the gasket and cut it to length. Now the trunk closes tighter and the gasket never flattens out. I also release the trunk door when not riding. It works for me. Good luck. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

Hmmm, I never thought about it like that! Makes perfect sense though! It makes me wonder if you could do like they used to recommend on cars and "lubricate" the door gaskets with petroleum jelly to keep them soft, pliable, and to help prevent them from drying out and cracking?

Gold Rush we must be twins.

I always wash/clean my trike with damp soapy sponge and wipe it all off with a dry cotton towel.

What's it like to ride in the rain?

    Never have.... Never will.

Half the reason for stuck buttons/switches/ rusted parts all cause by water.

I was told by my Honda wrench, those dash/control buttons are weather proof nor water proof.

Ok all you die-hards cycle riders, "I ride in rain, sleet, snow", sound off, I can take it.

I used to. Grew up in Oregon, pretty much part of life; never had any failures. Rode through snow over ice in Korea, no problems. The Texas rain did get me once, but that was because the wires going into the brain box on the Sporty developed a crack in the epoxy. Dried it out, hit it with silicone caulk and never had the issue again.

Not so hardcore anymore... after 35 years, I finally decided I'd had enough of rain suits
