    Default Trailer

I am presently in the process of getting my Valkyrie triked with a Roadsmith kit. I have a 5 x 10 utility trailer that I used to haul Valkyrie and it was fine. After measuring I find that it will be a little too short and a little too narrow for my Roadsmith trike . I looked at a 77" x 12 single axle trailer and It looks like it would work. I am wandering what you folks experience with this is. Is this going to be ok ,or do I need the next greater width.
    Thanks, Elliott

Good Morning Elliott! Is this trailer you are considering an open or enclosed trailer? If it's open and the trike will fit then you should be OK. If it's enclosed there sure isn't going to be much room on the sides to get around. The length should work for sure. You will have plenty of room to get the trike positioned for correct weight and balance.

    Good luck with your search.

    Default Trailer

Thanks for the reply Jerry. The trailer I am looking at is an open trailer. It has a dove tail but I think the length is still ok. My wife wants me to get an enclosed trailer and if I do that your comment is certainly well taken. I can relate to your comment regarding the thoroughbred. Thanks

There are pros and cons to both style trailers Elliott. I owned a Baxley open hauler for many years but now have a Wells Cargo 12" V nose wide body. I don't trailer often but when I do it is long distance and usually involves some nasty weather. The enclosed trailer just works best for my situation.

    Default Aluma TK1 Trailer

This is what we use as we don't trailer the trike often but I use it a lot for hauling everything else. Trike, Garden Tractor, Kubota riding mower, building materials and anything else that will fit and you can move it around by hand. Plenty of room to walk around it and wipe the trike down and it comes with a stored ramp... Look around you can find them for about $2,500.00 then just water proof the nose box and mount a spare on the front of the box... great storage... pulls easy and straight!! Here's mine....with my Roadsmith.... when I was at Wing Ding.... during bad weather!!

I use my enclosed Lodmaster snowmobile trailer to haul mine.

FYI: I went and looked at Tractorsupply.com trailers and the quality was kind of poor. Welds looked like a monkey did them and rusting; didn't look like these trailers were very well built.

Stay away fro those, they are junk. I bought a small one to haul my riding lawn mower. Didn't last very long .

    Default Trailer

I doubt that I will be trailering my trike a lot but I know there will be times that it will be necessary . The information will be helpful and already has me thinking. I will be looking around in the next couple of weeks and will get it done. Thanks, Elliott

I just purchased new a 7' X 10' enclosed trailer single axle w/elec. brakes for my Goldwing Roadsmith trike.
The trailer dealership let me load it on a 6' X 10' and I found it was to narrow and not much if any room to walk around.
So they ordered the 7' X 10' for me and it just great for the trike.

I don't know if this helps but I have towed all over in this country. I now have RC single axle with electric brakes that is 7 x 12. Prior to that I towed an open utility trailer I have a Hannigan kit on my wing and needed the ability to walk around the unit. A 10 foot unit was very tight and did not give me the option to put anything else in the trailer except the trike. I am very pleased that I finally graduated to the enclosed trailer. Wish I had done it years ago. You don't have to worry about whether or road conditions and the bike is just as clean when you complete your trip as it was when you loaded it up.

I would certainly suggest to anyone that makes the decision to purchase an enclosed trailer to make sure and include Electric brakes. If you decide to go with a tandem axle trailer it is virtually a requirement. I decided when only towing approximately 1400 pounds that a tandem trailer was not necessary for my needs.

Due consider when buying a trailer not just for the trike you currently own but provide some room for growth. Some kits actually fit in a 6 x 10 but the fit is going to be extremely tight. You may invest in a trailer and then your next strike is either longer are wider and you were back in the business of purchasing a new trailer. Unless you want to buy and sell trailers every time you get a new trike it may be worth your consideration.

I have never had an issue with security or safety when parking my trailer overnight but it is certainly safer with an enclosed trailer as opposed to a utility trailer. Depending on where you're going it's just another factor you may want to consider.

I bought my RC 7' X 10' enclosed single axle trailer strictly for my Goldwing trike.

At my age my trike will probably be my last ride.

Besides I didn't want/need anything bigger for my present needs.

It will be nice though to haul it any where and time in any weather.

I had a 6 x 10 trailers but when I got my wing triked with a Roadsmith I had to get a 7 x 12 . Single axle with brakes. The number of axles is a preference to who is buying. Plenty of room.

6 x 10 would work but I found the sides were tight, hence the 7' wide.

I modded an old boat trailer ... just cause I had it already and it was very heavy duty.

I know some here have good luck with a hauling your trike with a open trailer, but I sure wouldn't.

To much road sand, dirt etc. for me, especially when your talk'n towing a $20,000 - $30,000 trike 80-2500 miles.

I don't recall if anyone ever answered your original question... Yes, I have a 77" x 12' open trailer with a 4' attached ramp. I've only hauled my GW w/MT Adventure kit once, from here to Eureka Springs.

I've always said "why trailer"? I love to ride, even wet. BUT, when the XOL is going and doesn't have the same affinity for riding... well if it's raining buckets at leave time, ya trailer.

My MT may be a few inches narrower than your RS, but I had plenty of room around the side, and way more than adequate front to rear.

I also found much less overspray on the trike than expected, in fact very little dirt. 'Course, my truck doesn't sit really high, the factory tires don't extend outside the fender wells. When I arrived, a light rubdown with Pledge was all it needed.

Now, all that being said, I'd really like one of the 7 x 12 SA enclosed trailers. On some of our forays out west, it might be nice to add an AC unit & bed for when the trike is out for exploring the area.

Good luck on your decisions, part of the fun of triking/biking.

Your trike is going to be 56" wide and 116" long. If you are going to put it in a 5' X 10' (60"X 120") trailer it will be a tight fit but will work if it is open, which I think you said it would be. You are going to be putting a 56" wide trike in a 60" wide trailer living you 2" either side and as far as length goes you will be putting a 116" long trike in a 120" trailer leaving you 2" front and rear for clearance. You make the call.
    Good luck and have fun.

From his picture he has the running boards so the max width is 58". Length will depend on which rake kit he has.
