Default 2014 Honda Goldwing Motor Trike Tourpack and Trunk

This may be a dumb question. I can only open my tour pack and truck with the remote. What if the battery goes dead on the remote? The key will not open the tour pack or the trunk. Is there a way to open either without the remote?

i hope someone who knows the newer bikes will respond.Does the 2014 have a manual release under the bottom of the tourpack like all of the Gl1500's and gl1800 2001-20010?

Maybe this is not what your asking?

Sounds like the opener mechanism inside the top trunk has a problem. Go ahead and open it with the remote then remove the five screws holding the inner plastic cover in place. Once off you Should be able to see what is going on. If nothing is obvious you may have to visit your Honda dealer.

Most of the gl1800 kits use the OEM latch levers; the center one opens the upper trunk, and the right opens the lower trunk. They are located under the rear of the upper trunk.

Everything opens just fine. But if the remote goes out, how would you open either the tour pack or the trunk? Right now, I use the remote to pop open the tour pack and unlock the trunk. Then I pull the lever to open the trunk. But if I lost the remote or the battery went dead. I would never be able to open either.

I'm missing something here. Are you saying that when you close the trunk it locks and you have to use the remote to unlock it before you pull the leavers to open it

No, more of a hypothetical situation. I can only open my tour pack and trunk with the remote. What if the remote was lost or the remote battery went dead. Does anyone know if it can actually be opened manually? Key is not good for opening either. Would we just be SOL if this happens?

I have no idea on the 2012's & newer, but on the older wings, the remote or key will lock or unlock the boxes, from the only key latch, on the top trunk. Once unlocked, the lower levers will open either the top box or bottom trunk.

I never had a use for the remote, don't even know where it is. The key works well enough for me.

I know you can still use a key on a 12, not sure if they changed something for the newer models.

Yes Jim, the key should unlock the trunk. Do as I suggested earlier and see what has gone astray in the mechanism. If the remote unlocks things then the problem has to be there in the upper trunk mech.

I may have been told wrong on this. Had a mechanic tell me that if you use the remote to unlock the box, it will "autolock" after a certain amount of time. He said if you use the key to unlock it, it will not "relock" itself, and you either have to lock with the key, or use the remote to lock it.

IF you lose the remote, just use your key to lock/unlock the upper box.

I have never been able to open the tour pack with the key. It only locks and unlocks.

Hi jredman. are you using the key to unlock the upper trunk and then using the middle leaver under the upper trunk to open the trunk and the leaver on the right side to open the lower trunk. that is the way it is so-pose to work. ( you can also open the upper trunk with just the key I think)

OK, now we are getting somewhere Jim. The key will only lock and unlock. You still have to use the handle under the back of the upper trunk to actually open both trunks. I know the remote will actually kick the upper trunk open but that is the only way. I do not use my remote so I can't give full usage help but I believe if you use the open function then the trunk will auto lock again when closed. If you use the lock/unlock remote function it stays in whatever configuration you set. Look in your owner's manual to get the straight poop on that..

Glad to know you don't have a real malfunction!!

I use the remote to pop open the tour pack. Key is useless to do anything but start the bike. There is no middle lever. I have a right lever to pop the tour pack if it is unlocked and the right lever to open the trunk. Have the Trike so no saddle lever.

WOW !! MotorTrike has changed the way they do things! My 2011 Adventure conversion still had all three paddles under the upper trunk. Sounds like they have changed out the paddle assembly. Now maybe someone with a Razor conversion will chime in. If not soon Jim, I'd still take that cover off I mentioned at the get go and see if someone forgot to attach the bar between the key and the latching mech.

I'm betting that is what you are going to find.

Good Luck !!!! If nothing is obvious then a call to MotorTrike might be best.

Sorry, I just went out and checked. I typically open the tour pack with the remote and have never used the levers. That's why I was a bit worried if the remote quit.

I went out in the garage, and I actually do have 3 paddles. I used the key to unload and pulled the middle paddle and walla, the tour pack opened. Now I do feel foolish. But glad I asked. Now I know I can get in if the remote does not work.

Thank you all for the replies.
