    Default Handling Question

If one were to lay out a 50-100 yard radius circle on pavement and began going around it faster & faster what would finally happen?
    a) Understeer - the front tire would begin to slip (push) and the trike would leave the circle at a tangent.
    b) Oversteer - The rear would slide out, at first allowing a controlled drift but eventually leading to a spin out if pushed faster.
    c) Tip over - Inside back wheel lifts and the whole rig rolls over like a racing hack when the monkey falls off.

Nope - But I'd pay to see that....especially "C" so I suggest you go for that!! Except for the Monkey part....

Know an easy way to find out!!! You forgot, would centrifical force toss you off the trike before it tipped over. Better question, WHY would you do such a thing. Sounds like "If I ran my harley into a wall, would the front end bend?"" Here, hold my beer while I try

    Why 3 wheels?

because 2 isn't enough and 4 is too many

+1 to Screwball. I bet the solution is faster than any of us want to go so what's the point. I can be really aggressive in my riding every so often. I have not reached that point so I don't think I want to try.

It is surprising how many times I've been asked "how easy is it to lift the inside wheel?" I'm not saying I'm a speed racer, but I drive my trike in hard and leave under throttle. I'm pretty sure I don't slow any 2 wheeler behind me. I've thrown that bike into corners and scared my little self, and coming out the other side thinking that's as fast as I ever want to go again. Never lifted that wheel yet. And to be honest, that surprises me...in a very good way.

Front tire would probably slide first due to lack of friction. More surface area covered by rear tires. and as far as 3rd question. There is an old Polish proverb that covers that.

Thanks. I have a lot of experience on 2 & 4 wheels but not trikes. I can 'drift' both given reasonable handling machines so I have an idea of what to expect if, say, a curve tightens up or I have to dodge something. That cost a tad of hurts in my youth so I was hoping there were more folks who would share their experiences & knowledge vis a vis Freewheelers since I'm too old now. Thanks for sharing yours.

I have gotten enough weight off the inside tire to make it bark on the pavement very often on a 90-degree turn when I want to play but never completely lifted off the ground. My buddy played too hard on the dragon and lifted his on a tight s turn. Result was a NASCAR right into the wall type turn and up the hill. luckily it was a right turn into the hill and not a left turn over the edge. About $2000.00 worth of Tupperware and paint and he'll be good to go.

Thanks. I'm not sure I understand. He lifted an inside rear then ??? I assume he didn't roll it but did he steer to bring the wheel down or did the front wash out or did both ends slide. Hope he was OK.

He's ok. Drove it back to Florida. I was not there. He said turns too tight and too fast to analyse. He felt wheel up, Didn't say which one. Heard rpm up, Instant turn over ditch and up the hill.
