I am getting a bit of low speed head shake and I was just wondering what the recommended preload is for a triked Valk; either a figure or a plus percentage.
Thanks for any help

Did you install a rake kit?

The trike has a 6 deg Road Smith kit. Not by me, but that is what it has.

Could possibly be installed slightly loose. To check, place a jack under the front of the motor and raise slightly off the ground. The front end should have a slight amount of stiffness from side to side, not a loose or free fall feeling. There is no set spec but to tight is to tight... snug is what you want. Test ride and tighten slightly to decrease wobble or slow speed shimmy... re check balance or try Dyna Beads..... some FYI...s
I recommend that you torque it to 45 lbs to seat the bearings in the races then vigorously turn the wheel left to right several times, then back it off to 30-35 lbs or until it requires a very slight bit of pressure to turn the wheel. You don't want the wheel to flop over on its on. Also believe it or not, tire air pressure can also cause this. Make sure the front tire is set at max recommended air pressure per the manufacturer's statement on the side of the tire and make sure you are running the rear tires at between 20 and 24 lbs. You can experiment with the rear air pressure until you hit your personal sweet spot.

Thanks guys. I will have a play and see what falls out.

Comments and questions.
It's not wheel balance.I am talking 10-20KPH and I doubt you would feel much at that speed from anything but the world's worst imbalance.
How to I torque the adjust nuts? The manual has a way to spri8ng balance the forks and I can see why Those nuts are just weird and obviously I can't just use a socket and torques wrench.
Maybe what I am feeling is just acceptable? As I say this is at low speed...very low. I have a substantial, linear steering damper that I know is working; with the front wheel off the ground, there is quite an effort to turn the bars. It certainly will not flop one way or the other.

OK. The trike does have the solid swing aerm type suspension, which even in theory I thought might "walk" a bit over bumps. I will let it lie.
Thanks guys.
