Yep, that's Texas. But we are going to pay dearly for this weather at some point. Mark my words. We should be down in the upper 20's up here. Had a beautiful ride though with temps at 75ş today. Muggy with rain in the forecast for later this evening. We'll probably have a foot of snow and ice New Years to make up for this nice weather.

Yes - weather has not been exactly what we expected this fall.

We got pretty darned hot in the middle of October going to the Kerrville meet. Really expected the weather to be a tad cooler. We hit 97 degrees between Brady and Fredericksburg going down on that trip. It was cooler on the return home thank goodness.

We were out for a ride around the patch yesterday - 79 degrees by the time we got back...the official high for the day was 80 in Midland.

We also had some pretty tough gusty side-winds yesterday ahead of this wet front about to move in right now. Those titanium-color trikes really took on a more brown color with the dust we accumulated.

We try to get out just about every weekend even through the winter - weather pending - if just a short ride around - to keep the batteries boosted and give our spirits a lift.

You are right, we have went from sunny 77 degree to 3in rain and flash flooding to 3in of snow and 32 degree. Trailblaser did you wish this on us. No complaints as we know it will change in a little while. Ride safe and have a very happy new year.

    Oh yeah..... it changed!

Midland got 7.6" snow officially - a record-breaker for date of Dec 27th. We have 2-3' drifts here in town. Of course there was the ice storm just prior to the snow. Only going to be 33 here today - not enough to safely maneuver the streets to get to the office!
Also, will have to wait a while tomorrow morning - supposed to be in the 40's.
    Then the catch-up fun begins...

My company's interests in southeast New Mexico got 15-16" of snow - they are shut down.
I read that the governor of New Mexico has declared a state of emergency. Our weatherman said all roads in New Mexico are officially closed - for people to stay put as emergency crews can't get to them.

On the South Plains (Lubbock) and Panhandle - not sure what they got - a lot I know - but cattle are walking over the fences due to the drifts being so high. The electric is also off a lot of places and the cattle are walking through the electric fences up there - one picture showed a herd of about 25 huddled together on a highway in the dark and DPS trying to get them off the road and back into the pasture. Due to conditions the ranchers will be delayed getting to, and re-securing them.

Oh well - this too shall pass. Then, there's the storm coming this weekend. Oh joy.

    I hate cold weather.
I'll take hot weather over cold weather.
I'd rather sit in the shade of a nice tree and drink an ice-cold beer.

    Cheers!

Well, let me tell you about my "Texas" weather this past weekend......I live in Austin, but my wife and I drove the car to visit my daughter up just on the northeast side of Dallas ......you know what's coming now (if you have listened to the news). It was the day after Christmas, 80', heavy cloud cover and kind of ominous looking. I was sitting on the back porch, just lit up a good cigar to fight off the dreary weather, had taken a few puffs and put a smile on my face, then all of a sudden sirens start going off in the neighborhood! I'm sitting there wondering what the hell was going on? My daughter throws open the back door and yells me to get in the house NOW, there is a tornado in the area....well this big guy doesn't move to quick, but I sure did my best, I put out my cigar and went into the house. We huddled in the center hallway of the house and in the bathroom. When the sirens quit, we came out and no sooner than I opened the door to look out, they started again! It was a new experience for me as I have not been in that situation before. We missed any damage in that area and her neighborhood. All of us were safe, sadly, others were not.
Watch the sky, my friends, we don't know what the good Lord may have in mind for us next!

    Oh WOW Juice !!!!

So glad you and yours were not affected by that terrible storm.

    So sorry others were.

I guess by now Dallas is having, or has had, the snow storm that followed the tornado storm - double whammy - not good.

I personally look forward to the Kerrville trike meet again so I can complain about the heat and drink a cold one under the good shade trees with all ya'll....

Paws I am with you. However we would like to find a camp ground to stay at this next trip. Just need to find one that is good for tents. Georgia and I do about four or five camping trips a year, just don't know anything about camp grounds around Kerrville.

There is a KOA camp ground just south of Kerrville on Goat Creek Road. Had a rally there a few years back and the camp ground was nice. I am sure there are more around the Kerrville area.

Speedy, thank you. When we have another Texas get together we will try to get someone who lives close to Kerrville to scout the camp grounds and we can get a list of folks that would like to camp rather than stay in motel. Might have cold drink with cook out.

What do you guys think about maybe staying at a resort of some kind, instead of a motel? On our group ride last October,I noticed some places that would make for a great HQ for our Hill Country Gathering, this year.

    Clint -
Are you speaking of a "camping" resort?
There is one south of Kerrville called "Medina Highpoint Resort".
It's original name was "Koyote Ranch" I believe.
It has RV hookups, tent spaces, little camping cabins, recreational/meeting hall, swimming pool, etc. See the link below.
I didn't look at ALL of the amenities and prices. I had just looked at it a few days ago.

I DO know that motorcycle groups reserve regularly. That being said, one would have to book ahead, in-between the HUGE rallies that are regularly held in the Bandera and Medina area. This area has a number of motorycycle rallies through-out the year.

I looked at it on-line the other day - it's a bit pricey for RV hookups (which is what I was looking at) but still cheaper than a motel - not sure what all the rest of it cost.

There are quite a few RV/camping places around down there. A couple of them right at Kerrville are more for fancy RV's (big motor home rigs and fifth-wheels) - I know because we have driven in to a couple of them, just looking around, in past years - they probably would not appreciate motorcycle groups too much.

Of course there is camping and some motels on the other side of the mountain too - around Leaky, ConCan, Utopia, and Camp Wood. Garner State Park is over there also. Leaky is the "main" town over the mountain in that area but is still really small.

We have ridden and visited this area MANY times as I am originally from San Antonio, my sister lives at Uvalde, and we have frequently travelled the area. We usually stay at Mason or Fredericksburg parks or my sister's home. We are hoping to move to Kerrville in a year or so - watching the Zillow and Realtor.com websites a lot now, getting a feel for housing.

    Rev Ray,
We just arrived in the Kerrville area from North Dakota to spend few weeks and are staying at the Medina High Point resort about 16 miles south of Kerrville along Hwy 16. They have camp sites in addition to RV sites and cabins. Lots of motorcycle and trike capers here right now actually. You can find them on facebook 'Medina Highpoint Resort' and check out further. their reservation number is 800-225-0991.

The Medina High Point Resort is a nice place. There is a restaurant but I don't know about the hours. The only consideration might be that it is several miles into Kerrville or Medina from there and if people want to go somewhere to eat dinner then if it not during Daylight Savings time it will be dark riding back. I personally don't like to ride after dark in the Hill Country due to all of the deer. Just a thought.

Need to correct you a little on that saying it's "trailer house" and not "mobile home".. LoL!!

Yep, weather's been something else. We got 3-4" on one side of town and 11-14" on the other the day after Christmas. Sunday is was 55 degrees in the morning and 15 later in the afternoon and icing up everything that had melted during the day. Monday got up to around 50, went for a ride, but not too far. Ice patches on the road made it fun at times !!!!!!!!!

Still temped to try some snow cables on my trike. BUT, would be a disaster if one of 'em broke !!!!!!
