    I have a 2007 Honda Gold Wing with a 2015 Road Smith Kit installed and was wondering about the current brake recall. I found this on the Road Smith Web Site.

    Does this recall affect Roadsmith HT/HTS1800 (triked GL1800)?
    During installation of Roadsmith conversion kits, the SMC on the motorcycle is disabled. Honda’srepair procedure states: If the vehicles’ secondary master cylinder (SMC) is removed, or the SMChas no brake fluid flow or connections, this recall does not apply. By disabling the SMC during theconversion process, there is no mechanical or fluid flow link between the SMC and rear mastercylinder on Roadsmith triked GL1800 motorcycles.

    Jim, you fail to point out the next paragraph in that link. Roadsmith goes in to suggest the trike be taken to dealer for their verification and documentation. Doing so is entirely up to the owner of the trike.

    It appears Roadsmith is taking the lead in customer relations and support by posting something on their sight about the recall.

    Jerry thanks for bringing that. That's why I posted their web site. I was relieved when I saw that , I really did not want to trust the local Honda dealer, and thanks to Road Smith for putting that info on their site. Ride Safe

    I do not profess to know all about this. However, my Hannigan also has the SMC capped off to the rear brake. I appreciate and agree w/Jon Michael's (of Hannigan) statement in his post on this subject.
    One should take his/her trike in to have this recall performed.
    My opinion is you get a new rear master cylinder and a free brake fluid flush/change.
    Most of our trikes started out as 2 wheelers and who knows what affect this problem has had on the rear master brake cylinder prior to the conversion????
    Also, an early statement in this recall cites "old brake fluid" is the cause of this problem!!!! Not sure why Honda should be responsible for the cost of this if owners do not change fluid as noted in the owners manual(12K miles or every 2yrs)!

    Good points.... I also read somewhere that God Forbid if an old faulty SMC made it way to a previously upgraded bike (picking a salvaged trike for parts) and this action caused someone's death it would be double tragic. Yes it will be a bit inconvenient to take our trikes to a Honda Shop but in the big scheme of things it ain't nothing..

    They all are good points . When it comes down to it old fluid from poor maintenance is the probable cause to the problems. I bought my 2007 gold wing 2 years ago and it only had 7000 miles on it. Even though he did take it in for the first brake recall he did not do any maintenance other than oil changes. The first thing I did was take it to my mechanic and had new tires and all fluids changed completely. I keep up on those things but many over look the importance of these especially brake fluid changes. Yes it is up to each person to make that call and take it into the Honda dealer or their own mechanic, which is what I will do in the spring. In my first post on the subject I should have included that next paragraph in the link explaining that . Have a good day and ride safe.

    Default Brake Recall

    I thought the same as some of you that since on my Gen II Hannigan the SMC has been capped off and no longer affects the rear brakes that the recall did not apply to my trike but not so. Southern Honda (Hannigan Dealer) built my trike and they say my SMC, RMC and fluid will be replaced under the recall at no cost to me. Consider...there is still fluid in the SMC and there are lines connected to it... Hope this helps. Ride Safe. Doc
