Stangas - Renegade Kit - Sissy Bar

Hey all,

I have a 2011 Road King with the Lehman Renegade rear end on it. I recently removed the Harley storage box off the top and now want to put a sissy bar on to keep the missus comfortable.
I rang the bloke that installed the kit on this bike and he tells me that it is not possible.

Now after some thinking and looking I find it hard to believe that this will not be possible.

I even started thinking outside the box with regard to modifying the luggage rack I have to have the sissy pad mounted to it.

So before I start mucking around, I thought I would ask you peeps on here if anyone has succedded in putting a sissy bar on, what you used etc and how.

I own a Harley detachable sissy already and this will NOT fit on without cutting a fair bit of fibreglass off the renegade. This would be highly undesirable.

My last Harley was a Softail Deuce and that had a nice clean small backrest that would work well, just wondering if it will fit onto the road king.

I spoke to the local dealer here in Perth, Western Australia and he seems to think he cannot get any.

Just the clarify, I have the older shape and he says that the sissy bars will not fit without modifying the fibreglass.. is this true?

You can use a Softail sissybar and backrest. You just need mounting brackets and make sure your rack clears the sissybar.

These are the sissybar brackets that Lehman uses. You might be able to make some.

Any chance of a photo of the bar work with the seat off? Highlighting where exactly the brackets go

I was drunk talking with a good mate, and believe fabricating my own was definitely an option, considering I have the sissy bar and rack already.
Maybe even just buying those brackets to save a bit of time.

I think I have directions at the shop. As far as the brackets go, I have to see if I have some spares. I have complete sissybar kits and don't want to break them up. Let me see what I can find.

They mount on top of the body between the ribs and forward of where the rack will attach.

Use rubber washer beneath the plates to keep water from the trunk. Use silicone sealer inside the trunk to also keep the water out.

You should mock it up first using masking tape to align everything before drilling any holes. Use clear silicone and chrome buttons to fill the holes of the tour pack mounts.

I have decided on manufacturing the whole thing. My mate is pretty good at metal work and is confident we can fab it up.

At least that way I can utilise the sissy bar I already own, and it will look as flash as a rat with a gold tooth.

Cheers all you guys that helped me out through this project.. I have to admit that is looks bloody awesome.

I ended up using the original road king sissy bar. Cut the connecting lugs off, and welded to the passenger grips

Well, it is too late now but you will figure out down the road that your seat is just not too comfortable for you and be in the market for a new Corbin Seat with self-contained passenger backrest attachment.

You may find the stock passenger grab handles are not very stout and may flex and break under the seat.

LOL.. yeah too late now.. but I am pretty happy with the comfort anyway.. did a 2hr continuous run and had no problems at all

All of what we have made can be removed easily for that flash as looking seat if that's the way we go.
The minister of war and finance is starting to scrutinise the amount I am spending on this bike already, so a $700 seat would not go down too well atm.

As for the grab rails breaking.. we reinforced the bracket that mounts onto the bike, and where the handles attach to the plate that mount to the bike. There is NO flex compared to before reinforcing.

I will get a seat off photo when I get home.. on nightshift atm, and it is 5am... yawn!
