    Default lift kit installation

dealer wants to charge me 300 bucks to install a legends lift kit on my 2100 tri glide. went to legends website and look at the installation process. looks pretty simple. remove tire, support trike on jakstands and just replaced lower bracket on shock. can it be just that simple or am I missing something?

I put on the DK comfort lift kit on a 2014. Took me about and hour and a half, on the 14 have to take off the park brake bracket earlier models don't have to do that. If you are okay with working on your own trike, use common since and take your time should not be a problem. Guessing the Legend kit is the same?

Don't know about a iegend's kit, But i did a lift kit on my 2011 Tri back in 2011... Took me about an hour and a half from start to finish, That said is the 300$ including the price of the kit, Or is the price just for labor

Like Moe I installed a DK Comfort Lift kit, and it basically is that simple. The hardest part for many is safely getting the rear of the trike lifted high enough to put it onto jack stands.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

that was just the labor! after you installed it, did it handle better? my main concern is getting it a little higher, when I left the dealership yesterday, I scraped the tip of the muffler.

Does it handle better, Yes it lighten's the streeing effort... And will end most if not all scraping..
When i first put mine on i just wanted to get rid of the sagging rear end every thing else turned out to be a bonus.. And back in 2011 they were made only to raise the rear. The original maker was also surprised how they improved the ride..
As far as the 300$ Maybe install them your self..Also check out DK's lifts..

It is money worth spending. Better handling and most of all, no more scraping of the mufflers tips. The trike even looks better.

I've installed several sets, using a J&S trike jack .... and I can do them in an hours time ... so 1.5 hours of labor is the maximum you should pay.

HINT: don't go up or down driveways at a 90* angle and you won't scrape. Ditto speed bumps. Even with a lift kit, you will scrape on a steep driveway at 90*

    Default Patience

I used a kit from TGlideStuff. It was on my 2013 and transferred to the 2015. Probably took longer to get the bike up on jacks "safely" than installing the lift kit. Not convinced it changed the handling but certainly keeps the mufflers off the pavement and gives the trike a nicer looking stance. Be patient when removing bolts and follow instructions.

DO IT YOURSELF ! We did two of them in my buddy's garage its not rocket science at all. We both had the same muffler problem going down our own driveways. NOT any more we don't all is well any place we go now ! if you have a floor jack and two jack stands your in business. You see a little more of the back tires and it looks good from the back of the bike also. Go for it and do it yourself and take the $$$$$ you saved and take the wife out to dinner. Believe me it's not hard at all and it works !! Get it on here from DK Customs you won't be sorry. Ride is better and I think it corners better. PLus the mufflers stay round

Hi Sully: I have a small floor Jack that I stuck right under the rear end. Then put the jack stand under each axle. Of course I 1st took the lug Nuts loose. Then after I had jacked up I took the wheels off for cleaning. Plus I used my TQ wrench to make sure everything was tight. Had NO problem putting those on. Took us longer to tget everything we needed and jack up then the job took. As usually Ohhh ONE more thing My garage has a step up. So I we butted the front wheel to that and we were off and running. SO make sure the bike can move forward.

Sorry but this makes no sense for installing the lift. If you have jack stands under the axle you can't install the lift kit. Contact DK for clarification. The jack stands go under the frame cross member that is under your trunk. There are two of them. You want to use the one closest to the front of the bike. It was easier for me to jack the bike up one side at a time.

    - - - Updated - - -

Jacking point is the most rear point on the frame where the down tubes meet the horizontal part of the frame.

When I installed mine, I placed the jack stands under the loops that are installed for tying down the rear for trailering. Just jack up one side at a time place the jack stand then do the other side; use the recommended jacking points. This lets the axle hang free for the install. I put a block in front of the front wheel and used a velcro strap around the front brake lever, the trike did not move. Was an easy job, take your time and follow the directions and you will have no problems

To clarify, you can use the axle to jack up the trike, but the axle must "hang" when installing the lift kit. The jack stands should go under the frame. This allows the axle to "hang". Also allows you flex in the axle to align the bolts in the lift kit.

Where on the frame did you put them?

It was easier for me to jack the bike up one side at a time.

    - - - Updated - - -

Jacking point is the most rear point on the frame where the down tubes meet the horizontal part of the frame.
OOPS MY MISTAKE ! REALLY SORRY ABOUT THAT !! Upper case is right about where to place the jack stands. Was on my way out the door and in a hurry. SORRY. But we did have both sides jacked up and off the ground. Also cleaned under it and behind both wheels. Took the wheels out side and cleaned the back of the rims and under the fenders also. Rick
