    Default Does cam upgrade mean new clutch plates?

    I read the "Another cam thread" started by Mr. Wiz as well as his "how to install cams" thread and nothing was mentioned about the possibilities of needed new clutch plates so I'm just checking. I figure that if I have more hp & torque then maybe different clutch plates might be in order? Also...
    * Any need to replace the outer plate bearings?

    * In the thread Sloufoot mentioned "checking with Wiz about doing some work on oil pressure while doing the cam swap." In his "How to change cams" thread he didn't mention anything about it but thought I'd check on this as well.

    * On his "How to install cams" thread, Wiz mentioned changing the chain tensioner shoes. Any preference as to the brand?

    * And lastly, it looks like reusing the rocker box & cam cover gaskets, as well as the push-rod tube O-rings is recommended?

    Thanks for all the great info on this site! It's AWESOME!

    ps I have a 2010 Street Glide Trike with 50,000 miles, PC-V tuner, catless header, SE air cleaner, 3 1/2 inch slip-ons with 4 inch baffles.

    I run the stock plates but do have a AIM VP pressure plate. I followed Wiz's instructions pretty much to the letter without issue. Good Luck

    Thanks for the reply. And I agree that following Wiz's instructions is a good idea. Getting into a twin cam is relatively new to me. Lots of time spent on Panheads to Evos but this will be a new experience. In his "How to install cams" thread he says that he didn't cover every detail and to ask if there were any questions.

    The AIM VP pressure plate is good advise. Thanks. I had looked at them a while back but that was before the decision to do my cams.

    A Harley mechanic friend of mine asked if I was going to change the outer plate bearings and because Wiz didn't mention this I thought I'd ask.

    In Wiz's thread he said to replace the tensioner shoes but because there are a bunch out there I thought I'd get his, yours, or anyone else's opinion on a particular brand.

    As far as reusing the gaskets I mentioned I know many do reuse them and I do too sometimes but because leaky rocker boxes and pushrod tubes are much harder to get at then the primary I thought I'd get some clarification on the reuse of them.

    Thanks again for the mention of the AIM VP pressure plate.

    I did not change the outer bearings so no comment on that. The cam chain shoes all depend on their condition mine were fine but for 34 dollars or so each I did change them. by the way I install the TTS-100 cam. I'm happy with my choice.

    Does your 2010 still have the 32T front pulley? If so,changing to a 30T will make a significant change.

    I've got the 30T pulley. Changed it out a few years ago and it sure did help, as well as the PC-V tuner and catless header. But now I'm looking to get more "Grunt" from the 103. It's almost acceptable while riding single as long as I keep the RPMs up but with a passenger and extra gear any real grunt is gone. And so after 50,000 miles of doing it more or less stock, it's time to give the girl a boost! As I look back at some of my other rides, '48 Pan, '78 Shovel, and '85 Evo, I changed cams around the 50 mark and always wished I had done it earlier. When I got the SG Trike in '11, I swore that I was going to do the cams as soon as possible but was having too much fun riding to get it done as we spend winters in Florida and summers in NH so the idea of missing any riding time is always biggest factor in putting things off, as well as the proverbial "as long as I'm doing that I might as well........" and that's when the wallet gets a good workout! But it's time for the cams and I already have a list of other things I plan to do "as long as I have it torn apart!" Like molding the neck and downtubes of the frame and hiding all the wires. That alone will take another week to do but it's been on my trike "bucket list" as long as the cams have been on it.... and then it goes on...and on.... and on.... and on! But don't we just love it!!!!
