    Default reverse how far ?

I used the reverse to back out of my garage, then I continued backing out of my driveway. Its about 75 feet from garage to the road. My question is did I over use the reverse gear ?. Do not plan on doing it again. Its working fine so I don't think I damaged anything. Was just wondering how far most of you guys actually go on reverse. I'm a new triker so I plan on visiting regularly and asking lots of questions. Also what settings do you guys use when riding solo ? My trike has an up/down button for making adjustments.

I have heard that you should pause the switch off and on, not run it steady. The settings you should just try different pressures and find what works best. On my air shocks I run 20 to 30 lbs at different times. Enjoy your ride.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

You didn't say what kind of trike kit you have so the preload setting might not work. It's disconnected on my '13 Hannian for one that doesn't use it.

I am afraid of burning up something, so i use it to get the shortest distance I need, key word need, to back up. I try to plan ahead when pulling in too, if possible. If I am on a slight incline, I will push it back a little to save the backup system.

    Red face reverse backing up

Thanks for the response guys, as I said before I don't plan on doing it again. Wasn't thinking 1st time was just enjoying my trike. Won't happen again. Will try different settings as suggested. I just love riding this trike, getting lots of looks and compliments on it. Will be back with more questions later gotta go riding now.

I'm with the other comment here, I have a Road Smith, and ride two up, I don't back that beast up with two, ever, and make every effort not back it up with one person on board. You can back up just walking it out of wherever you're parked. It's my opinion, overworking that starter motor is not a good option.

I get off and walk beside it when using reverse if possible. That way it don't have to carry an extra 250 pounds of rock hard muscle and brains.
    It's easy to do!

The secrete to Honda's reverse is to use as little as possible. It as you probably know works off the starter. If you backed it that far you could probably have fried an egg on the starter. In the owners manual Honda has a recommendation of 30 seconds. (I think)

I agree Mike. Reverse uses the starter motor and was designed for the weight of a 2 wheeler not a trike.

I only use the reverse on mine, when there is no other way to move it.

Apples to Oranges here, On my Tri-glide i got tired of the electric reverse and put on a mechanical reverse, Now i park anywhere i feel like, On Gravel uphill doesn't matter.. I can even spin the tires in reverse.. Remember an electric reverse is just an assist only.. Not a true reverse .!

Very rare that I use the reverse on our Trike. If the parking space I have my eye on is a down hill space, I swing around, pull clutch in, give a push with feets and roll backwards into space. If the space is an uphill space ... I just pull up into it and then drift back out of it at "go time".

I have used reverse in the "trike room" to back the trike up onto some 8" high ramps, but I was always beside it pushing back as well.

There was that time in NC on a ride when I saw the guy behind me drop his 1800 in the roadway as we pulled out of a parking lot on a uphill grade and I went to make a hard U-turn to rush back to help .... it was a narrow mountain road in Ashe County .... and I stopped as the front wheel slipped off the pavement on the far side ... I tried to push back with legs but this time with wheel down over edge, I needed reverse to help me .... but I was working hard too .... but me and reverse got it done without having "Wife Unit" dismount.

When I come home and go to put the trike up, I swing around at the basement and shut it off and leave in 1st gear. "Wife Unit" and I dismount, I open doors to bike room, pull clutch, slip in neutral ... and find it very easy to single handedly push the trike backwards steering it into it's room (actually a room built on what was a patio adjacent to the basement) walking beside the trike.

I never use reverse as a parking brake, I have a wedge on a ball chain at the front to put in place to hold the front brake and there's low gear in the transmission and then .... there's fold up wheel chocks.

I depend on the reverse a lot. Bad legs. But I wont run it more then 15 feet at a time. Never up an incline. I make sure Im parked downwind at all times.
Once going backwards I can use my toe tips to get me back farther if I must.
I know Im killing the starter eventually. But its why I bought the GW trike.
I use it twice a day every day.
Backing out of my garage. Then my personal spot next to the store going home.

It's amazing when your aware of the limits of reverse, that you choose were to and not to park.
I'm always looking for a slight up hill drive-in position.
Get back on, pull in the clutch, and let gravity do the pulling backward.........

It's sure nice to have the reverse feature when you just need a couple feet to back up especially with a rider.

I can't imagine what it would be like without it...............
