    Default Venture radio

I'm looking at buying a 08 RSV trike ,it only has 10k miles but the radio doesn't work. He says another guy looked at it and said that was a common problem with these bikes. He said the wire from the radio is not routed right and gets pinched around the steering head,he said he wiggled the wires and it tried to work. Does this sound right to anyone, has anybody had this problem? Also how hard is this to fix? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Tell him to fix it, if he wants you to buy it or offer less money!

He's already come off $1500 and has it priced very fairly, plus he said upfront the radio doesn't work and that's the way he's going to sell it. I was just wondering if this was a common problem and how hard it is to fix. Hoping for a little help.

I've been a member on Venture riders for about 6 years and have not come across very many radio issues. If it tries to work when wiggling the wires, I would suspect someone has done some work on inside the fairing and pinched or stretched some wires in there. Probably a problem between the control head and the radio.

Anytime there is a problem with a RSV radio the first thing to try is to remove the fairing outer shell, and disassemble the large radio connectors/plugs. Spray them with contact cleaner, apply a small amt dielectric grease and reassemble making sure of tight connections. This takes care of 90% of the problems. Also make sure the radio isnt set to CB another common problem. Been on Ventureriders since 06, I dont remember ever reading about radio wires getting pinched in steering head, guys did have that problem with passing lite wiring. If ya buy the trike all this fix will cost you is an hour of your time and it just mite fix your problem.
    Good Luck, Craig

Craig probably nailed this one with his suggestions. I've never heard of anyone that has had the radio fail due to wiring around the neck. Clean the cables first. Next I'd check fuses, then the control unit on left handlebar.

Get a service manual for the bike part of your trike. Then you can do about anything you want on the bike.

For $12.00 a year you can be a member on Ventureriders. there is a full set of shop manual available to view, plus all the info, advise and tech tips you will ever need for the 2nd gen RSV. Also a great bunch of people, just like here.

I will try to take some pics tomorrow and post them, it's gonna be 70 here tomorrow and I'm going for a ride with music!

Hey thats great, glad it worked out for ya! Ya owe me a coffee next time we meet. Next time you split the fairing run a "Y" connector from the aux input to the tapedeck, plug the one side into the tapedeck connector and run the otherside up to the handlebars. Then you can plug in an mp3 player or GPS with mp3 capability or a bluetooth recvr. Just set your radio to aux. and you can have hrs of uninterrupted tunes.

the above fix worked for me. The wires under the fairing are jammed in there pretty tight and they are also color coded so you can't mix them up unless you are colorblind. Just be careful when trying to get them all back in that they don't come loose.

My radio and cd would cut in and out or not work at all. The dielectic grease fixed the problem. Also make sure that the setting aren't on HS (headset) or you will not hear anything thru the speakers.

Also on Venturerider.com they have detailed instructions with pictures on how to split the fairing. One note when you split the fairing.

Use EXTRA CAUTION when removing the chrome strip at the bottom of the windshield. There are very small plastic tabs on the back which break off very easily if you are not carefull removing or replacing that trim.

If you need to replace any of that stuff, I can send you a link....good prices and they can get just about every OEM item for your Venture.
